COVID-19 Virus

92 new cases in KY today. No new deaths, no new cases in my county. There was a police roadblock in town today and a road was closed. No idea why. Death toll yesterday climbed to 3 after the press conference. We have now 4 sick young children. An 8 month old, 2 1 year olds, and a 6 year old.

He is now asking people to make noise(ring a bell) every day at 10 am. And also to make videos of themselves saying "were going to be ok, we are going to get thru this" and put them under the KY coronavirus hashtags. He said he was going to start playing one a day during the press conference.. He is now calling people out more aggressively, "if you gather in groups people will die because of it".

Saying they are making so hospitals can treat outside their regions so they can move patients around... aka if Louisville hospitals get overrun, they could send coronavirus patients to hospitals out in the countryside.

More talk of the carpetbaggers in the parks. Beshear has authorized for the parks to close. Saying he will get more aggressive to break up crowds if he has to. Eta: he said explicitly they are from far away like nj, ny, and louisianna, and are congregating in large numbers. Lovely.

I don't know what a carpet bagger is?
Florida over 4,000 now, 56 total deaths 18 today
We have more cases than many countries including Australia....
Crime is up 5%.

A carpetbagger is a slang term for the people who flee to an area to capitalize on the assets of the area without any genuine ties to the area. It has political implications which are not relavent in this(they aren't trying to flood our elections). So maybe not the most accurate term, but similar.

And wow! Stay safe! I hope you have some way to protect yourself!

Clearly stay safe folks, its getting really odd out there.

Today was truly odd, it was like a huge number of States got caught up on reporting their numbers.

And, our governor elected to refuse to allow our Doctors to use the Malaria drug with or without the other drug(s), stating something like she wanted to prevent hoarding of those drugs???? I'm generally fairly good at following this stuff, but that has me totally confused... If anyone has a clue why Michigan residents should suffer /die because use of this off label drugs may cause hoarding, please let me know!

From the end of the so-called civil war! Many from the north, with money, went south! It was common for them to be carrying a carpeted bag!

Clearly, we have entered the transitional place where there is a reduced flow of knowledge regarding this Monster Virus and more watching its destruction of Human bodies and its spread. By now, most all of America mainland has received by US mail the coronavirus Guidelines. Regardless of political vantage, read it and build it into your daily activities. They work and will get us though this nightmare. Unlike earlier when we could prepare and grow our knowledge, now we are protecting in place and praying others will do the same.

This coming week, North America should see an ever increasing volume of N-95 masks as the manufacturers both great and small provide their efforts. In addition, the number of face protection devices also increase and once again from great and small manufacturing from corporations to class rooms. Protective body wear supply will also increase. Sadly, ventilators will continue to drag-on into the first full week of April before numbers will increase above what the original manufactures are able to make base of 24/7 production as it is a demanding product to manufacture.

I have watched with ever increasing disappointment the National News Media blame and disparage the National Government for near everything. It would be interesting if they took the time to review their actions during the last pandemic when they stood silent on the sidelines as H1N1 ravaged North America and Europe, as it followed the Seasonal Flow of the Spring and Fall Migration. It was six months before our Government did much beyond shutting down 4H and County Fairs. Point is, no governmental oversight is truly inspirational and no governmental program or institution(s) are ever fast enough.

We are now approaching 90 days since the first case of this Monster Virus landed on our shores in a silent cloak and nearly 70+ days since the US Government shutdown flights from China. Sometimes it is important to take a look regarding just where we have come from to better define where we are today. As there is a very tall /long lists of accomplishments and successes. We have much to be proud of, but much more to complete. We will do it faster in a single voice...

Sailboat,
Same thought
"Clearly, we have entered the transitional place where there is a reduced flow of knowledge regarding this Monster Virus and more watching "

We have more cases, more data and statistics. But I sure can't find that information to share!

Expert opinion, epidemiologist, statistics, infection rate, demographics, mortality rates, % hospitalized, % critical, pandemic timelines.....no current info can I find. About two weeks ago this information dried up......

Hopefully Monday, there will have been some data review on this, and they will update us.

Really windy morning. I have been running after windblown items all day, that and chasing chickens out of the house and away from our houseplants.

IDK if you guys know, but many cell phone carriers are doing their part to help people in "quarantine" as everyone seems to be incorrectly calling it. My carrier, Verizon, has given everyone 15gigs of additional data, and will waive overage fees if you call them up and ask them to. For us out in the countryside with no home internet, this is a blessing. We have been able to watch youtube videos and destress. Heck, we might even go ahead and use the phone internet to watch Netflix! I haven't seen anything on Netflix in a year and a half, due to lack of data.

One of my favorite youtube cooking channels has started making delicious tasty meals from "survival rations".. best beans and rice, canned salmon loaf, delicious tuna pastas, etc etc etc. Anyway, mostly just wanted to pipe up and interact with y'all. Hubbs was up super late last night so he is still sleeping.

Here is one of the cooking videos:

Another effect of this Monster Virus is that it may have slowed the expansion of the new g5 technology. IMHO, Verizon was leading the way with home based g5 WiFi system in addition to the national standard system. If I understand it correctly, such a system brings the power to mobile connectivity to the home with g5 connectivity. If true, you and the vast majority of North America becomes connected...

Be safe good friends!

GREAT.. (NOT)--assuming this is legit- A cat was symptomatically infected in Belgium.

and a repeat in slightly dif words:
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/cat-belgium-positive-coronavirus_n_5e7f79e4c5b6cb9dc1a145bc

If I had to fear animals getting this, my top picks for most terrifying would be 1. insects (in general-- because there are so many and they multiply so quickly), 2. Birds in general (because so many wild ones exist in the world and because of their range) and 3.) cats. Cats eat whatever they want if people let them run around outside unleashed, and they climb all over furniture/counters/houses etc with poopy paws (and this virus spreads via urine, feces and snot/spray)...GROSS/eek

Insects are not going to get. But o don't know if blood suckers could be a vector...
Cats, I believe very likely. As we screened for different ( type) that does cause GI illness in Cheetah and exotic cats like that. The different types of coronavirus did have a zoonotic potential, though we never had problems.
Birds are very different than mammals, and the coronavirus they can have is from a different family. I attached studies from virologist earlier in thread, and put in my Ornithology thread. As there is potential for the avain type Coronavirus ( completely different than current outbreak kind) to jump species.

Over 75% of contagious diseases in the world are zoonotic. Most newly emerging diseases are zoonotic.

Does anyone know if we can take showers yet or should we just keep washing our hands?

HAHA---
but in all seriousness, I learned long ago to NEVER touch my face in public, but I do touch my hair and I wonder hour long it can live on there.

ps- US federal social distancing just extended for another 30 days (thank God...I was worried we were going to be stuck with that Easter date in the USA).

Hope this gives everyone a smile (and that the link works, I'm lousy at technology!!)

A BBC sport commentator with way too much time on his hands now has decided to use his talent to turn mundane, everyday existence into an exciting sporting event! You'll cheer for Ginger in the Spaniel Speedway! You'll thrill to the Find A Fashion Bargain Steeplechase! As for the Tooting Dogging Final, well ... and no UK members, it's not what you're thinking...

So I know Florida is taking a week to ten days to report tests results, abd I heard the California governor say the same testing turn around time.
So the numbers we see now reflect the infection ten days ago ......

One infected person leads to 45 infections in a week........ Sure hope those people have been self isolating....

My neighbors on one side of me just came back from a vacation with their kids and grandkids. They left for the vacation after the pandemic announcement........

Florida still had a county with open beaches yesterday, and ofcourse it was packed , so they closed it today.....

Good news tho my neighbors across the street , and myself feel better.

Thank goodness you’re feeling better Laura, we don’t need you getting sick. Stay safe!!

Is it coming to an end every where? forget the big numbers, its the trend we should concentrate on, it looks like globally the numbers are following each other, considering every country took different actions at different times with differing levels of resources, does this mean its a 'natural' life cycle for this virus?

Look at this site, pretty much every country is showing a downward slope for new cases over the last few days. Fingers crossed..

Another day, another multi-billion dollar stimulus package announced by our Prime Minister, that’s three so far. I certainly don’t begrudge anyone receiving help, and maybe it’s the latent socialist in me leaping to the fore, but where oh where was all this money a few months ago? A mere fraction of these enormous sums could go a very long way indeed to ensure that elderly people in nursing homes were fed and cared for properly. That our world renowned and precious Great Barrier Reef was safeguarded. Towards re-engineering our economy to be more environmentally sustainable and future-proofed. Perhaps a rise in the unemployment benefit for the first time in about 25 years to at least attempt to keep up with the ever-increasing cost of living? To help end the cycle of homelessness and abuse suffered by so many disadvantaged people in our nation? And about a zillion other causes crying out for government funding that we’ve always been told by our politicians that we couldn’t afford. And I’m pretty sure Australia is not alone in all this.

I understand the economy needs to be supported so that it doesn’t just sputter and die, and so that when this thing is finally over our workforce has jobs to go back to. But seeing how much money has been thrown at this one issue, albeit a vital and life-saving one, does make me wonder a tiny bit about what enormous good just a mere sliver of all this government largesse that has suddenly become so freely available could have done in so many other areas of urgent need.

Or perhaps the bureaucracy has finally been able to successfully grow a whole orchard of money trees out the back of Parliament House and they’ve been giving them a bloody good shake!
