I think all your birds are very lucky to have you as a parront. then so much and seem to have a lot of patience with Yvons, giving him the time he needs to feel comfortable in his new home and not taking his behavior personally must be tough on a parrot to be rehomed after a long time with one owner even if the new owner is a really good one.

SHucks.. Thanks! Sometimes I think I take too long, but that's my uncertainty speaking. I've been around birds a long time. My previous birds have taught me a lot, which is why I feel I am ready for a grey now. MY pionus parrots taught me a lot about chilling out. My conures- they taught me a lot about not getting bitten! My cockatiels taught me a lot about body language.

Yvons is learning how to say "Splat!'. We play voice games and he makes the cartoon falling noise (I beleive I mentioned this before) and I say 'Splat!' at the end. Well, today I did a (poorly rendered) Cartoon falling noise, and Yvons garbled a 'SPalt'! He also says 'Hello' and 'Yuriy', the name of a friend I talk to on Zoom.

Then Redshift, the cockatiel who rarely talks, said 'Birdy!'.


It's also turning out that everyone's favorite foods are Nutriberries and ALmonds. Except for Red, who thinks whole almonds are bird-eating monsters, LOL! He'll eat the slivered ones, tho

Aaaand another turning point! Yvons is initiating the 'splat' voice game with me when I'm out of the room or in the kitchen. He's also started using the water bottle! I've officially trained all my birds to use a water bottle! It makes birdy soup a breeze to clean up, and the water bottle is easy to measure to see how much they've been drinking. I'm so proud of my new brat!

Giving dogs orders is a natural part of the pecking order. It's funny to hear. It's even funnier when they get the tones and intonation correct; pleased, proud, annoyed, angry and more.

Winter thinks of all the birds as a GREAT® source of food, whether seed, Nutriberries, or discarded veggies. As for the other birds.. so far everyone's kept to themselves. If anything, it's been a bit... um... boring? Boring is a GOOD thing. LOL!!

Yvons has taken to beating up this one rope toy. Hangs upside down from it and grates his beak, so he MUST be happy.

I've been told by avian vets that hanging upside down being the terror of a toy or object is a sign of  great comfort and security. So Yvonn must be in great spirits. Congratulations! Being owned by a large parrot and a CAG means keeping things interesting enough for that to continue! It'll be interesting for you and him to see if that is his to be object. To Be beaten, chewed, squawked, yelled, growled, coaxed and whatever else the mood, time, season etc determines.

Oh mah gawd! TWO huge things today with Yvons! The first is that he climbed and played on top of his cage today! YIPPIE! Got pix of that! The second is that HE STEPPED UP! I generally don't pick up my birds unless I have to, and Yvons was asking to be picked up. A dainty foot hanging in mid air. How could I say no? I offered my arm and he hopped right on! I am SOOOOOO Proud of my little booger bird!

Congratulations to you for your patience with him. Yvonn must have had a golden, well done foundation! Knowing how to ask for a pick up is showing great trust. A word here. Nameliss like many parrots take great delight in opening the closed and closing the open. That cage top is convenient for owners. It's a challenge to smart avians. Nameliss top is no longer in use. She's scared me numerous times. She knows it opens. Every once in awhile she tries to open it. Again congratulations. Next step asking for head scritches.

Today was another night where Yvons climbed to the top of his play area in the top of his cage. Silly boi! He didn't ask to be picked up. If anything, he was content where he was.

I'm loving this wee beggar.

Nothing bird-related to report today. However, my stomach issues are screwing with my day. I got sick at a friend's place and I have to cancel my dr's appointment tomorrow because there's no way in HELL I'm gonna tolerate 3 bus rides to the dark side of the moon when I feel like puking up my socks.

My daughter came back sick from overseas. Nameliss does an outstanding mimic of excess coughing then dry heaves, gaging, liquid hitting the floor or toilet. In spire of decades as RN, I still have sympathetic gag. I have to catch myself from throwing up. So you have my complete sympathy. Take care.

Nameliss sound like great company when you're feeling sick to your stomach! Between that and playing with toys in the dark, she sounds like one weird bird!

She is that. Like my service dog, she can tell if I am under the weather. I don't know how. Even if I don't 'feel' it. She'll ask in soft voice...are you alright. Then she does things to cheer me up or distracte me. If I am down breakfast can be late. If not ill excuses will not be tolerated.
