This arvo, the kids and I did the big Christmas clean. We had all the birds in the house while the cages went outside for a thorough blasting. We took it in turns to be the one bird-sitting indoors while the other pair hose-blasted everything.
So, I was taking my turn, watching Dominic systematically chewing all the paper in the rummage basket into confetti. As I watched, Madge flew down and landed above Dom on the playgym, not entirely aware he was there (she doesn't normally go anywhere near him). Well! Dom was not happy about long-tailed green budgies in his rummage basket, so he drew himself up to his full height and let out a pretty good version of the Galah squawk. Madge ignored him and selected a blue bottletop to chew on. So do you know what Dominic did?
He reached up as far as he possibly could, got ahold of Madge's beautiful and only recently re-grown tail and he bit it!!! Madge, of course, went to shoot off the rummage basket in flight, but Dommie had hold of her tail. Just to add insult to injury, he tugged on it not once, but twice. Poor Madge nearly hit the roof! She got away OK, but her lovely tail is ruined! There's a great bend about two inches from the ends of the two longest feathers and that two inches will drop off either tonight or tomorrow.
Snif! I was so loving that tail!
Meanwhile, the rotten old bugger just smiled in that enigmatic way Galahs have and went on making confetti.
