This arvo, the kids and I did the big Christmas clean. We had all the birds in the house while the cages went outside for a thorough blasting. We took it in turns to be the one bird-sitting indoors while the other pair hose-blasted everything.

So, I was taking my turn, watching Dominic systematically chewing all the paper in the rummage basket into confetti. As I watched, Madge flew down and landed above Dom on the playgym, not entirely aware he was there (she doesn't normally go anywhere near him). Well! Dom was not happy about long-tailed green budgies in his rummage basket, so he drew himself up to his full height and let out a pretty good version of the Galah squawk. Madge ignored him and selected a blue bottletop to chew on. So do you know what Dominic did?

He reached up as far as he possibly could, got ahold of Madge's beautiful and only recently re-grown tail and he bit it!!! Madge, of course, went to shoot off the rummage basket in flight, but Dommie had hold of her tail. Just to add insult to injury, he tugged on it not once, but twice. Poor Madge nearly hit the roof! She got away OK, but her lovely tail is ruined! There's a great bend about two inches from the ends of the two longest feathers and that two inches will drop off either tonight or tomorrow.

Snif! I was so loving that tail!

Meanwhile, the rotten old bugger just smiled in that enigmatic way Galahs have and went on making confetti. :(

Oh shame poor poor Madge
I am sure she got such a fright
Dom took full advantage of the situation and held of for dear life

Sure they will "make up" and soon all will be back to normal, even Madge's tail

Oh, the poor baby! Bet Dom's thinking "she won't try that again!" ;)

Dommie is dreadful! If he's on the cage top or the table and a Beak dares to land there (even at the extreme edge), he'll come galloping across with his crest up, faced puffed out like a swollen toad and wings extended. The Beaks know better than to hang around!

What's even funnier is that if my daughter comes within coo-ee of Dommie, she gets the same treatment. He positively hurls himself at her with his beak wide open. I hate to think what would happen if he ever got hold of her! And she loves him: she spent ages scrubbing his cage yesterday and then fed him bits of brazil nut. I s'pose it'll just take some more time...

Dom's a lot better with me these days. I can hold him and move him from place to place. If I go to put him in his cage, however, he bites me hard! I have to leave that for the men to do.

Oh no Trish. We were only talking about their beautiful long tails the other day. So sad that her tail has a bend in it. Dommie is a mean birdie :)

On the plus side it will moult out in no time and she will be back to her normal beautiful self.

Dommie does however sound like such a character.

(Wails) Oh Bundii! She only just grew her tail in after moulting. I was so proud of it too. If she'd only stand still long enough, I'd put a splint on it or something. That Dommie! I reckon he's got Tail Envy!
