Question about macaw’s face colour

OK....now that you pointed out that it is around the eyes, I can see something. Since it is night time where you are, it doesn't seem to be alot you can do till morning. Keep an eye on him and call the vet as soon as they open. It could be nothing serious, but to be on the safe side he should be seen to rule out other issues. Good Luck

Hey sos late reply. He’s doing fine and in direct sunlight it’s not as noticeable. My mum had year old photos of him looking the same, I’m guessing it’s just the phenomenon of an optical illusion caused by the way light interacts with the layers of a bird's skin and blood vessels.
He doesn’t have any issues and runs around or swings on his toys. I didn’t take him to vet since he goes in October for worming and in march when I took for poop and health check they never said anything weird about it. They were looking at the face since I was asking about the white on his beak and that kind of stuff.
He’ll be 8 years old around the 1st of December. He was born either late November 2018 or start of December. The seller didn’t say how old he was as they couldn’t remember exact date but they got the gender revealed and that card identify said mid December or something, not sure I even have it anymore. Mum might have it tho. The seller said maybe couple weeks before that. I just use 1st of December since it’s easier lol.
In 2021 on Mother’s Day he actually escaped the house, seller and vets said it was a good idea to clip the wings and so I did for the first couple years. Problem I learnt the hard way you do get use to them not able to fully fly and lose track when they can.
Anyway I couldn’t find him when he flew outside and he got chased by a small bird. Problem is where I live at that time around the block where he flew a tree had a bunch of crows living in it. I spent the next 4 hours driving around trying to listen to him but he was too scared to make any noise. This was at 4pm when he escaped. Honestly I thought I completely lost him since even if he got found he wasn’t microchipped.
Fast forward after a horrible night sleep my mum called me before she left for work that she thinks she can hear him, he’s a macaw living in Australia, you don’t hear macaw’s noises. I went around the block to see where it was coming from and I see him up in a 10-13m high tree.
As soon as he saw me he started to panic or more excited and was trying to climb down. Tree was too steep to climb and after getting chased he didn’t want to fly again. Problem was this tree was in a primary school and an adult just hanging out in his car wasn’t going to be good for me lol. Since I couldn’t get to him or him climbing down. I took the risk to go to my local hardware store to try and build a ladder for him to climb down. When I got back to him he was dangling and panicking on a branch on top of the fence. He probably thought I abandoned him when I left and probs flew down and caught another branch. As soon as I got out of my car when I saw him he stopped panicking and just calmed down and didn’t move so I could quickly grab him.
When I got home he just drank water for like 5 minutes straight and didn’t want to leave my shoulder. After that I got him microchipped and I researched and some said their bird never woked up from being put to sleep I took the risk with him. He woke up fine and never had an issue with it. Plus I’ve stopped clipping his wings to never get too comfortable and leaving doors open again. Helps since I live with mum and sister so I had to get them to stop it as well.
Now he doesn’t fly unless he panics, before he would fly to me from the cage but he rather climb everywhere now. Vet says there’s not much I can do since he’s too traumatised to fly fully and he climbs and jumps quite a bit now. Since the lounge room doors are always closed and the outside doors aren’t allowed open if someone needs to go inside the lounge room, any time I’m home or my mum’s home he’s allowed out of his cage all day long, he even goes back inside when it’s night time lol.

Well seems might really just be just the light reflecting and stuff. Just looked at my old feed and my very first comment shows me asking about the exact same question in 2021 lol. I guess if it was serious he wouldn’t be here now lol. Plus all the vet visits since then and never came up as an issue
Hahahaha, I remember when I got ky first illiger's his face seemed yellow sometimes more too, with him I thought maybe it was excitement but after a while I never saw it again.
Wow what a story when he got out! So glad you got him back, that must have been horrifying for all of you. So sweet how he immediantly wanted to come to you though, a great attestment to your bond!
You don't see a lot of them, always love hearing about other ones! Thank you for sharing.
