Merlin frequently pushes Cheddar away as if he’s tired of preening her.
And Cheddar will bite at Merlin’s feet I think in an effort to encourage him to start preening.

That is so wonderful to see them have a close relationship. So interesting to see Merlin pushes at his head but still keeps preening, it must be a great joy to watch their behaviour together. I am a bit jealous! Do they play fight together too?

No, no play fighting.
They will sometimes play with the same toy/ same time.
Cheddar lunges and attacks imaginary enemies.
Merlin did this too in the beginning when he was young.
