Sand Blasting Perches

In the past I have used a grinder with with carbide disc to remove bark. But now have learned most remove bark by sandblasting. I have decent sandblasting equipment.
So my question is if basic silica sand is ok or do I need to use something else?

I use parrot power to remove bark on perches. No extra cost or elbow grease.

I’ve considered buying a sandblaster to refinish some furniture. Do you like it? They just don’t make stuff like they used to. I either have to pay an insane amount for wood furniture that is quality, or go for ply wood, and then if it gets a scuff it’s there forever (can’t repair as it can’t be sanded down/stained).

I never thought to sand down my parrots perches (I just use tree branches now). I learned the hard way that you need to wash them down as I had bugs all over. I don’t think the parrots minded.

I seem to remember hearing about the use of almond shells (all crunch up) as an alternative and natural substitute for sand blasting.
But I don’t know what would be wrong with sand either.

Silica sand is reportedly bird safe.

Not long ago when an old brick building in my area was being refurbished, ground walnut shells were used for sandblasting the brickwork. Supposedly the walnut shells cause less damage to the bricks than sand and are easier to clean up.

That show that use to be on the History Channel “American Restoration “ used it.

How I envy those who do things like this. I spent 30 minutes at Home Depot looking for right size, lenght, head size wood screw for caster replacement. No problem with locating for wood screw but not the other requirements. I finally asked for help. Waited until yesterday to replace those casters. It took 60 minutes before I realized that I got sheet metal screws. I sat down fussing at myself. I could hear the mantra I was forced to learn. Read thrice, measure twice, repeat 4 fingers and a thumb of both hands. Repeat if you walk away Then cut, drill hammer. You want a project, fingers, thumbs and motivation when you're done. So CAG's cage is without casters. It has to wait till motivation makes a reappearance. That heavy metal monster cage frame moves just great on the plexiglass using to protect carpet. Even better than it did with casters!
