Skitty the Sun Conure & his daddy - The days our lives together.

New video!

I went to take Skittles out after getting back from my appt. Normally, he will come right out, but today, he decided scratchies come first! You can hear him clearly make his 'froggy noises' and 'kissy noises'. You can also see his 'tongue wagging' near the end of the video. That's signal for 'juice time'.

YouTube

PS, sorry for the background noise. I didn't realize the camera would pickup my chewing gum noise so clearly. LOL

Haha that's too cute! Harley just had a fit like who is that?! Why are you watching that?! I don't know how I feel about this momma!!! Then climbed to the top of his cage to defend his domain. Lol

LOL. Nope, they do not want to share the spotlight whatsoever!

I've got to head out to the store. I'm all out of fresh fruit and Skitty needs some. He's so spoiled.

I have a friend who will say to me "you're going to go all the way to the store just to buy something for Skittles?".

Yep. People do that for their human kids. Why shouldn't I for my much better fids.

Skittles wishes everyone a happy Labor Day! Though he seems to think that it means it's "mischief Monday". He figures since I'm gonna relax, he gets to wreak havoc. Well, the relaxing only lasted for a bit. I decided to do some housework before preparing dinner.

I was sweeping to floor and sending all the debris, discarded food etc onto the carpet to vaccuum. Well, Skitty did not approve. He flew down onto the carpet and decided that the 'five-second rule' did not apply to him. So I scoot him off the rug. This happened a few times before I was finally able to get some things done.

I figured, okay - he had his fun and now he'll leave me alone for a bit. Nope, not gonna happen. I hang up the laundry in the hall, he removes the clothespins (followed by a single yelp after eat clothespin is removed.

He has a lot of pin feathers that are fully grown and is wanting 'extra scratches' for the places he can't reach. Naturally, I oblige. But the way he sees it, nothing around the house gets done until each and every pin feather has been preened.

My neighbor (who seems to think she knows everything about birds because she had a couple parakeets when she was a kid), tries to tell me what I should and shouldn't do. I bite my tongue.

She said he does these things cause he knows I react and if I stop 'accommodating' him he'll learn to stop doing these things.

First of all, she does NOT know everything about birds. In fact, she knows very little. But that doesn't stop her.

I try to explain the mischievous nature of suns to her and she doesn't get it. Skittles used to spoiled. I would drop everything to tend to his needs. That doesn't happen anymore. It shows in one of my recent videos. He is waiting 'patiently' for his juice. I taught him patience. But I'm not a mind reader and his only way of 'communicating' his needs is through his actions.

I don't get what she expects. What am I supposed to do? Take away his preening privileges?

Okay, sorry. I had to vent.

But in other news, I'll be taking a new photoshoot of Skittles soon. I think there are still a few people here who are not quite aware of just how beautiful Skittles feathers are. (that last part is sarcasm) haha

Here's a few more Skitty pics!

(Sorry for the lack of proper lighting, I didn't use the flash, given how close Skitty wasto the camera).

Those are awesome shots! In the second picture, Skittles looks like he was totally not prepared, kinda like when a paparazzi takes a celebrity by surprise lol!

Yeah, in the second pic he's pressing his right foot against my beard, presumably for balance.

It just amazes me how much he trusts me. It's such a wonderful feeling to see someone so vulnerable have complete faith and trust in you.

those are some awesome shots. Skitty looks great and it's cool how he trusts you so much. :D

Those Pak o'Bird things sound awesome! I could take little Bean to work with me!!!

Everyone tells me that I totally spoil JellyBean - but I seriously don't care - I love his engaging demanding ways!!!

SPOIL Skittles - he looks like one seriously happy content bird!

I like to say I 'pamper' him. I think you can only 'spoil' a bird or child if you always do what they want and let them control you. Never setting limits.

There is nothing wrong with going out of your way to make them happy. Making sure they have whatever they need and giving them wants when you can.

I don't pamper Skittles when he misbehaves. But he is so used to being pampered that when he doesn't get his pampering, he knows he's been naughty and the behavior usually stops rather quickly. (Which is weird, considering most kids will throw tantrums til you give in. That's the key - NOT giving in.)

Yeah, I hadn't ever heard of them til BoomBoom posted some photos of his and Boomers trips. Not sure wheat thread they are in, but if you haven't seen them yet - they are great pics.

Here are some new pics of Skittles in his new cage. Including some 'cuddle hut' pics!!! First time I've been able to get him while in his cuddle hut. In his old cage, there wasn't enough room to hang his cuddle hut from the top, so it was always on the bottom and hard to see him from there.

I don't know who likes this new cage more - him or me. LOL.

I thought more people would adore these new pics. I'm insulted! LOL. I just love my little angel, I hope he lives forever!

He looks so happy in his new home! Has he always faced in to the cuddle hut like that? It's so cute!

Yeah, though he's "usually" further in so that just half of his tail sticks out. But in his old cage, the cuddle hut was on the bottom of the cage with the openings facing sideways so it wasn't possible to see inside. With his new cage, the openings face the front and back, so it's easy to see inside.

He actually has two cuddle huts. One of them is hanging from the top, the other one is on the bottom of the cage hooked to the side. I did that just so he can sleep on the bottom of the cage if he wants. He's so pampered. LOL.

I LOVE Skittles' new pics Jonathan! He's precious :). I fact, the second one down is my absolute favorite. Made me say aww! I'm glad you and Skittles love the new cage, and the new options you have to hang his hut from the top now.

More Skitty pics!

I bought Skittles a new blankie today at Walmart. I nice plush one for his new cage. It's a king size and goes all the way around the cage.

He's soooo cute!
