Let me stop everyone thinking I don't ever lock him up with this picture. The rope is there just to make it easier for him to get in & out. Just pick it up & move it when opening & closing the door.

He was rather nippy for a minute & I found the shunning technique on here a while back. Not only does he get locked up when I leave, when people come over & at bedtime. But also when he bites. He's gotten much better about that, thanks to locking him up when he's a bad boy. That has really worked with him.

Btw "home" is nippy right now. If I try to make him jump (hold him just out of climb on range) instead of jumping he's nipping at my fingers. (Not biting, but showing clear frustration.) One thing I love about this bird is you can read him like a book. he's so expressive & clearly so. you know exactly what he's thinking. How should stop him from doing that though? Lock him up? Let him get down/learn to climb on first?

"Come" we can already do with no treat in my hand as bait. But as far as reverse training goes...I am finding that I can't take anymore steps back from him & ask him to come. He just does his yes yes yes thing. When he fails to launch should I be putting my hand down? Walking away & then asking again? Just not sure how to allow failure like in that video. I'm still 100% new to all this.

*I absolutely never get frustrated with him, I notice everyone keeps saying that. & no worries there! I'm the most patient person. just new to all this & asking lots of questions. Trying set up for success as best I can. Being a total newb I'm certain I'm doing things wrong. & that's my fault not his! patience with animals is mandatory.

@Tman he does like millet & I have some. I have been holding a piece of pineapple but only giving him a taste as a reward. Not a whole piece everytime. I either let him get a little juice from it or take a tiny bite. There is never more than maybe 20-30 seconds of him chewing. (Maybe less, I haven't been counting!)

It takes a whole day to get through a piece this big. (See pic) I figured that was ok? It is not? It's a pretty small piece. I give Tech the same size piece of fruit once a day too. Usually mixing it up when I run out of that one thing. So usually the same thing for a few days in a row. & now I'm making Yoshi work for his piece of fruit throughout the day.

*I have tried giving mixed veggies but neither of them are super into that. Tech gives me the dirtiest look like "are you serious? I'm not eating that trash..." She refuses to even go near corn, green beans & carrots. Yoshi will eat some but throws most of it on the floor. Oh & both of them hate broccoli & sweet potatoes too I really thought Yoshi would love corn on the cob. Toy & treat in one...but not the case. Both of them love stuff with juice, can anybody recommend a juicy healthier option for me to try?

I gave Yoshi a similar size piece of an apple once, he devoured it in like 10 minutes & I don't give him apple anymore. It was the equivalent of a 3 year old running in circles babling for at least an hour. I was beginning to wonder if he was ok. He crashed hard & slept for a while. that was definitely a sugar high! So no more apples for sure. Are apples higher in sugar than pineapple? (It was a fujji) I never would've thought that.

But 100% I will give millet a try! I actually tried it once already though...but he takes much bigger bites of the millet than he does the pineapple. So the majority of the time he's eating not training...I did start some trick training with him previously. With millet. He's really quite good at it when hes on a perch & nothing else is there to distract him. But when I tried to advance & i put stuff on my desk...his adhd kicked in & he no longer cared about the treat or anything else infront of him....it was desk adventure time! I was going to build him a little focus box something with walls? Like a little tray and attach 3 sides of a cardboard box to back & sides of the tray. Just so he can't see the rest of my desk. but life happened & I havent gotten around to that yet.

I did order one of those bendable perches that clamp do the desk. It'll be here today sometime.

Oh & there was a bit of a close call with Yoshi & the baby Starling last night. Everyone is fine though! I bought a piece of plexiglass today to put another layer of protection in between Yoshi & the baby. He has yet to climb down the side of the cage. Everytime Yoshi has tried to mess with the baby it's from the top of the babies cage. I do slightly feel like I'm encouraging flying over to the baby. Because now he gets a treat everytime he goes over there...how do I discourage Yoshi from landing on the babies cage?

Should I try taking that landing perch off the babies cage. Now that I have plexiglass there? Again I only put that perch on the cage to give me an extra second to get up & get Yoshi off of there. It was strictly a layer of protection.

Please listen to me and let me explain.
On a forum you ask a question.
Then I try and answer that question.
Then I have to wait til you come back on to see if you get my answer.
Then you have to wait ril I get back on to answer again.
It get a little crazy.
So what I do is give you as much Information i can so you can work with Yoshi. It's not that I am saying you don't know what your doing. It's that I want to give you as much information as I can in one post to help you. If you do things (like putting him up get) i am just trying to give you as much information I can. This way you get all the information I have.
No disrespect to you what so ever. If you do some of the things I bring up great. I am not saying you don’t know anything.
What I saying i don't know what you know, so I am just going over everything really through. So I know I covered it with you.
So please Don't think anything of it as if I am looking down on you. I am not. But on a forum.

@Tman I know that & I am not upset at all! I hope none of my replies come off that way. Typing is never the best way to communicate but I assure you I was just adding more info, in response to what was said to paint the best picture I can for you.

I appreciate any & all of the input I get here! Every reply is much appreciated. I only know one other person that has birds so I am truly enjoying all bird conversations with everyone here. it's a great little community experience!

I'm quite the talker, so I'm just trying to explain everything in my reply as best I can to give a more full picture of what goes on in my little meep meep world. meep meep is Yoshis favorite noise to make.

I'm hoping the more I explain, the better everyone can imagine what's going on over here & give me more input.

Yoshi is so different from any other bird I've ever met. I love my little genius, menace, sweet heart to death. & I want to set him up for success & a long happy, healthy life. I don't believe in any species there is any person thay knows everything, with animals you really never stop learning. So I know that there is much I do not yet know & much I wish to learn for my birds benefit. So please no one be shy! All birds are different & I absolutely love hearing what everyone thinks, sees, does themselves, suggests trying etc.

So what does everyone think about my text in bold/questions from my previous reply? Any suggestions on those?

Like I said I read your post on other subjects.
1. When it comes to Yoshi, going over to the other birds cage. He flies he will go over there. So you might want to get a towel or a peice of material and cover.just the top part
of the cage. This way when Yoshi flies over there he land on top but with the towel there no harm done you can walk over and get him. And once he knows how to come, you can call over to you.
2. Putting Yoshi and Tech together. You might want to rethink that one. You see, you put the two together you will loose your sum if not a lot of the connection you have with them.
Because they will bond to each other. But that being said, what you do want is for you to be able to take them both out together and have them get along. Just something to think about.
3. Let's talk diet. You really don't want to feed them 24/7.
That's why he won't try other treats. He full of food. You have to understand he weigh grams.
He doesn't need all that food.
I feed my two green checks and my indain ringneck 1 1/2 table spoons of pellets in the morning after training. That it i leave it in their cage for about 1hr or so. Thats it. After that I take out the food bowls. Most parrots are over weight, because people think thy need more. I weigh my parrots everyday. By you leaving food for all day. He is not motivated to train. Thats why he likes the pineapple. In the evenings I give them their chop. And I switch things around chop in the morning and pellets in the afternoon. I do the same thing in the evening 1hr or so. And I pull the food bowls. This way by morning they have digested all the food do their morning poop. And I get them ready to train. From the time the lights turn on at 7am until I get ready to train now it about 8:30am maybe 9am. So now the are motivated to pay attention and get their rewards. I give them peices of seeds nad almonds. They are getting something to eat as they train. With Yoshi, you do this you will see he will take a sunflower seed. Or a millet bud.
I have a couple of pictures to show you of my ringneck. I have not pet him yet, he is shy of hands. And he trust me not to.
But you will see how small the seed is between my big old fingers. And how gentle he takes the seed from me.
