The ring is a solid "O", not a "C" with both ends clasped close in.

I don't know how he did it, but he took it off.

He's standing on both talons and doesn't try hiding his leg or foot when I overtly gawk at it, so there's no pain or anything he would try to hide.

Granted, it was a large O ring...

Once before I noted he had one of his 4 nails going through it...

Maybe he's double-jointed in his claws, but it's weird...

Has this happened to anyone else, where the bird manages to remove the band?

No never seen it... Have you been able to put it back on?

Without knowing how his little tooties turn, I might risk injuring him and as Tybbi was abandoned in a pet store, despite knowing me much better now since July, I don't want to ruin what trust has been built up by trying to force the band back on... chances are he'd manage to remove it again anyway...

Keep a hold of the band and get him microchipped - depending on the database used, some places can actually record the band number on the chip as well.

Agree. Do not put the band back on. Chip them. Lucy is getting chipped the next time we visit the vet.
