maybe we should agree to disagree....I see your point by what she said.
hopefully after reading our posts, she will change her mind and NOT set them free, and seek vet care. :)
either way, those birds are far better off with her than where they came from.

God forbid only experienced people should ever rescue a bird....

Even if predators did not get them, where do you think they'd find food? This is such a stupid, cruel idea. And suggesting going to an Avian vet...does anyone really think this person is going to spend that kind of money on these birds?

I think what Bill is trying to point out here is the obvious. If the Op were going to take these poor birds to a vet, they would have done so before posting here. WE ARE NOT VETS and therefore should not be giving out health advice. Refer to a vet and move on.

I don't want to get jumped on here however, I thought when I first read the thread that this was a troller. Now that I have read through the whole thing I am convinced. The person never got back on the thread and I think that is kind of telling. It just seems like they are trying to get a reaction. I think that I read on here once and then looked at a youtube video where someone released a whole cage of parakeets. I think this is the kind of reaction that they want. I just can't see anyone looking at that birds wing and not knowing that there is a MAJOR problem. If I am wrong then I totally apologize, I just don't want everyone getting so invested emotionally in this thread when I don't think it is for real. (I even saw someone had talked about contributing for vetting) Again, If I am wrong then I apologize and hope that seeing all the responses about NOT letting the birds go is a bad idea.

The OP sure got what he/she set out to do then.

Oh my God. I'm sorry about not replying, but I'm not fooling you guys. What I said in my first post was all true, those pictures were taken by me on my phone. I did read your replies about an hour after I posted and immediately tried going to the vet. I have been going crazy trying to help my bird, that is why I could not reply. But I'll try replying to the crazy replies I did get.

I do understand that it is possibly illegal to release these birds in some areas like Florida, but I'm not in Florida, or in America. I'm in Pakistan at the moment. There are virtually no animal welfare laws here. I thought these birds were native to the region, because the market where I had bought them, they were quite cheap. My other alternative is finding them a good home, which I will now do. I was not planning on releasing them without researching, I would not put so much effort into healing them if that were so.

I wanted to go to the vet asap, but there are only a few good vets in my city. And I did not know any of them. We did consult two specialists, one of whom told us she has some sort of a feather shedding disease and she would not survive. The other recommended some medicines and a massage for her wing and leg before we take her for a check-up.

I'm sorry if some of you find this act to be cruel, but I assure you, that was not my intention. I went to this bird market for the first time in my life that day, and I have now heard people say that most animals catch diseases and such because of the conditions of that place. They treat them horribly (they brought these birds to me in a brown bag with holes), and I wanted to help out in that moment, not give them business. All I can think of right now is that if I had not bought them, they would have died on their own in that place.

I want to do something more to shut down this market, and I'm working on it. But I'm a college student, studying in another city for most of the year. Right now, I am in my hometown on vacation. I am also not allowed to have pets in my dorm room, or else I would have considered that as an option.

Thank you to all those who did reply with helpful advice, it made me realize what I was supposed to do. I am not sure if my bird will survive, but I will sure as hell do my best to give her a fighting chance, and I would not have a clue what to do if I had not consulted this forum.

I'm sorry. I understand that for people who are experienced in taking care of birds can find my mistake stupid. But I did mention that this was the first time I ever took in birds as pets (or any animal actually) and that I had no idea how to take care of them. That's why I had asked. Or else, I really would not have bothered.

Also, the other birds that I did free were sparrows. Those birds are native to this region as far as I've seen. These were the only ones who were a different species.

Thank you Farah. Sorry so many were quick to jump down your throat.

Considering her OP was only posted yesterday did none of you think to consider that this person may well have been ASLEEP or busy reading our advice, but unable to reply?

I often wait till I'm home on my laptop to reply to urgent messages (sent to me) instead of trying to faff around replying on my phone.

Have the birds been put to sleep then? I wasn't sure if you actually got to SEE a vet, or if it was just phone consults etc. Please keep us updated. :)

I don't think anyone neccesarily jumped down anyone's throat. I even prefaced my reply with if I was wrong then I apologize. There are so many people that post things with the intention of getting a reaction. I am sorry if this offended anyone however it is upsetting to hear of birds being set free. Ok that said, yes these birds should go to the vet asap. It is unfortunaltey expensive to vet birds properly and if you do this hopefully they will survive and you will be able to get them to another caring individual such as yourself that can care for them long term. If they do not survive then at least you are giving them far more comfort with you than they had in the market. The one with the wing issue does look quite bad off and I hope that maybe it will be a case of too many other birds and they picked on this one. Perhaps now by itself it can grown some of those feathers back. It's wing did look kind of "wonky" the way it was being held. Keep us updated with it's progress and good luck!

Thank you for freeing the sparrows Farrah! I used to see that sort of cruelty every summer in Greece, so I know where you're coming from. You did the right thing taking the injured bird. At least he now has a bit of a chance.....far better conditions than paper bags and boxes. I hope the little guy makes it! I see what you did there and it was a good thing! :) I do know your options for medical care are extremely limited, but study up what you can, and try.
