Hello!

It looks like I will be adopting a 6 year old Alexandrine this week and I couldn't be happier but I am a little nervous. After much discussion with her wonderful and understandably heartbroken owner (who is only rehoming because she is moving out of the country and connot take the bird with her), I met Vino today and completely fell in love with her! She is gorgeous and sweet, despite being a bit wary of me. I think she knows there is something going on. I'll be visiting her a couple more times before moving her, I just want to make what will be a difficult transition as smooth and stress free as possible for her. But I can't wait to bring her home!

Any tips on bringing an older bird home would be VERY much appreciated :)

Look forward to getting to know some of you

Well, my advice would be to bring her into a calm setting, if possible. Allow her to get her barrings before forcing yourself upon her. Let her come out of her cage at her will, not yours. Good luck and welcome to the forum!

It helps that you are visiting her at her home but is there any way her owner could bring her to your place (say on a saturday ) for a visit while you two share coffee then leave her with you for a couple of hours while you clean and talk to her just so the bird can check out the lay of the land so to speak? Just a suggestion.

That is an awesome idea! I will definitely suggest that to her! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum :)

I agree, by taking her to your home for a few hours will get her used to where she is going:)

Once she is with you, I am sure she will soon settle.

Going to visit Vino again tomorrow and she is coming to my house on Monday! I am SO excited and totally in love already :) I bought her a new swing (the type that is her favorite!) last night, off to do some more shopping today. Vino will be a very spoiled and extremely loved in her new home!!!
