Please help! We have a young BHP, he/she is approximately 15 months and we've had her for close to 9 months. She started out sweet, but not overly affectionate, and recently she's been MEAN and biting the heck out of me, literally lunging at me while doing my makeup and biting to hurt, leaving me bleeding. I know I'm not supposed to react, but it REALLY really hurts. When she's calm, she's drooping her wings forward and bobbing her head a lot. I took her to the vet and they said she seems fine. Any thoughts? I do appreciate any suggestions!

Hi Nancy, I am enclosing a link https://www.beautyofbirds.com/brownheadedparrots.html as sometimes if you understand the breed it helps understand what is going on and this sticks out to me "They can learn to perform tricks and, provided they were well socialized, enjoy being handled".

If you think there is any mileage in this then work on getting her more socialised, meeting members of the family, play 'warm potato' in a neutral room with those family members that are up for it and NOT scared. It helps to also take them out and about so they see the 'outside' world - bit limiting looking at four walls all day?

Might be in your interests to have a DNA test done as not sure if male/female - can help in terms of what to expect.
