Hello! Today, Boomer is officially 9 months old! Our little mother clucker lost a huge tail feather today. He is starting to look more and more like an adult conure, losing his greens, getting more orange and gaining a bit more bulk. Can't wait to see how he looks in a year. Also, it is more and more apparent that he is trying to talk. It is not crystal clear but I can hear an attempt to say 'Poop Poop!' He is especially talkative at night. We hope that he learns more words, but it's ok if he doesn't. We still adore him!
He continues his love affair with corn, banana, apple and red bell pepper. The other veggies and fruits are flavors of the month for him. He's been going crazy for cuttlebone lately. He can reduce one to white powdery rubble in a day. He is still slow to eat his pellets but we were able to successfully transition him from the colorful Zupreem fruity blends to the natural colored one. He just needs to eat more of it.
Now that it is colder, we bought an electric radiator with oil for him and the budgies, Capa and Quark. It seems like a good brand, it is quiet and does not smell. I didn't think a heated perch was a good idea because the protected wire will not stand against his inquisitive beaks. With the dryness that comes with winter, we also bought the birds a nice humidifier. It doesn't use filters so molds should not be an issue. It works well and gives the room a nice, clean smell.
It is not always rainbows and unicorn with him though. He can get loud sometimes, like when he wants something and can't get it. It's not that bad but once he gets started, he can really get into it lol. Usually its wanting a shower or a bath that can get him going. Silly bird.
The first picture is our pellet, nut and seed stash for Boomer and the budgies. We find that storing them in these water bottles is very convenient. We keep them in the freezer and just pour it out as needed. No scooping or spills!
Boomer sleeping on my chest early one cold morning, before I got ready for work. He liked the cozy warmth. Thank you for looking! Hope you enjoyed the pictures!
