Hello! Thank you for those who visited and left nice comments. I haven't had a chance to update Boomer's thread in a while. The past month has been a trying time for me. Many, many changes for both me and Boomer. He is a trooper and hung in there with me. He had a few difficult moments through the whole adjustment period, but he remains my sweet, little conure despite it all.
I am now the sole caretaker of this little guy. It is challenging at times, especially when it comes to running errands, getting groceries and doing housework. It is doable though and gets easier the more I get used to it. He is now back to being an only-bird (the budgies are in good hands), but he doesn't seem to mind. Keeping Boomer occupied and making sure he doesn't develop any nasty habits during this period of transition is one of my priorities right now. He has been good but has been a little screechier in the morning lately.
Unfortunately I haven't taken Boomer outdoors in the past 2-3 weeks. The first reason is, his flight feathers are starting to grow. I caught him being more brazen, flying off his cage just to test his wings. He still glides down to the floor but I can't risk it outdoors, especially if a gust of wind lifts him up. I have to look into trying out an aviator harness. I don't really like how uncomfortable they look on birds, but its that or clipped wings.
The second and most important reason I haven't taken him outside is a bad scare with a bird of prey (I'm not sure if it was a hawk or a falcon). A few weeks ago, this hawk/falcon was perched on a branch right outside our window! I would have missed it if not for Boomer giving one of his surprised screeches. I was so shocked to see one in the busy city where I live, but then again, our apartment complex has a lush garden full of trees so I can see the attraction. He was less than 10 feet away from the balcony where I usually sit out with Boomer. He was eating a pigeon that looked like the size of a turkey to me. Ripping the feathers and the skin muscles out of the carcass and making lots of nasty noises. He flew away an hour later, with the pigeon and all. I was very glad Boomer was not outside with me when that hawk/falcon came by. It would have been bad. I haven't taken Boomer out since! You'll see pictures of the hawk below...
Boomer likes to cuddle under the covers while I get ready for work in the morning. He's doing it right! :
