My friends, some recent posts are veering towards the guardrail and venturing into unproven conspiracy theories, fear mongering, and denial of scientific realities.

The U.S. is still woefully undertesting, a key factor in identifying asymptomatic vectors of infection. By this point, we have significant population of folks who were minimally affected and may have protective antibodies. Knowledge of those at greatly reduced risk would enhance national recovery efforts.

The fatality statistics are indeed grim; at present deaths from COVID-19 far exceed daily losses from the usual suspects of cancer, heart disease, suicide, etc. Adjust them on an annualized basis and you'll see the impact.

An MD friend of mine has posted extensively and almost daily on FB and chooses to make his narratives sharable. Unfortunately it is not feasible to take screenshots of his work, graphs and repost to this forum. He has tackled the disparity between the U.S. and South Korea, two diametrically opposed methodologies, traced the genetic origins of SARS CoV-2, etc. So if you wish a bit of enlightened prose absent a dubious agenda, take a look at his reposts to my FB. Our governor just cancelled school for the rest of the year in my state and I just got an email from the president of my college letting us know that we will not be going back on April 13th like originally planned. So now we have no date for when we will be going back. My school is officially closed until further notice. Also my pet store- where I normally buy my flock's food, toys, and supplies- is closed for the time being as well. Thankfully my job is essential so I am still working! Stay safe out there, guys!

My husband says there's basically two factions on the web regarding Covid 19.

1. Flubros - People who think everyone's over-reacting 'It's only the Flu, Bro!
2. Doomers - People who are reacting appropriately to a scary thing.

(Guess where I see myself between these two options? )

Anyone who says “It’s just the flu, bro” has never had a really nasty bout of the flu. Plus they underestimate how deadly it can be!

Any posts that veer toward discussions of Covid-19 conspiracy theories will be promptly removed. In this vein, several posts following the posting of a video along these lines have been moderated. This is not a judgement on the veracity, or lack thereof, of the piece. But rather enforcement of our rules and regulations regarding the discussion of politics or religion on the open forum.

We of the mod team ask that you remain respectful of this forum's primary focus on birds, and that you not willfully disregard the rules we have in place prohibiting political discussions. If this rule cannot be followed, and continues to be blatantly disregarded, we will be forced to consider closing this thread. Thank you for understanding.

I have followed this Monstrous Virus and its World Wide Destruction from the time it first hit the North America Shoreline, long before our National News Media even found any reason to have interest in it. The confusion of our CDC and than their change to this being far beyond a traditional Flu, but a SARS-CoV (it has a Protein as part of its structure).

I have always place one to several grains of salt to any documentary and ever more with what our Media is providing. That said, we are faced with a SARS CoV based Virus. Genetics are genetics and that reality cannot be erased.

We are an international Parrot Forum, which IMHO is dedicated to the Care and enrichment of the Parrots that own us. It would be easy to create a case that this Thread should not be part of this Forum. But, what would be loss is the reality that it Rang Loudly the Bell that awakened that Forum to the Real Dangers that faced us and as a result our Parrots. That it allow the members here to stock-up in advance or just before the Masses. This has resulted in hundreds, if not thousands of Parrot Owners to be safer as we plod this horrid plan.

At present, we are faced with a splitting reality, one that exposes North America's and likely the World's reality... There are forces that chose to divid us.

The vast majority of this Thread has been dedicated to provide critical information that 'HAS' allow the membership front edge information that if I maybe so bold, has likely saved a member or two and likely many that simply read from afar.

The Thread has always run the edges, such a subject cannot avoid it. But, we have not thrusted the ugly blur of politics. If anything, we have held to reporting knowledge, knowledge that has saved lives!

I'm proud of this Thread and the members, the contributors, to this Thread that have stayed on the road!!! Great Care needs to be taken not to define one set of information as anymore deranged than any other as an excellent Math Professional will tell: Information, all information contains questionable data. Data that is played to shift beliefs. Numbers can be played with, but in the end, the combination of numbers and current data exposes the truth.

Again, I am proud of my fellow members!

Consider a locked down profile! I have three, family, work, and a backup to verify my security settings! I keep a tight control on what friends and snoops can see!

Good points David. My prime attraction to FB is not the wall of personalization but rather private "invitation only" pages of highly specific interest. I belong to many in the arena of aviation, surely they exist for almost any avocation. Several friends have joined with "locked down" profiles that yield absolutely nothing to the public.

Yes there can never be enough testing. It's hard to test everyone, even tho that would be a great goal!

It's so hard to reach the people who aren't flattening the curve. What do they need to hear to change their minds??????
My neighbor had an Easter party, with multigenerational faimly members there...

Yes there can never be enough testing. It's hard to test everyone, even tho that would be a great goal!

Widespread testing and contact tracing helpful to manage the current pandemic and prepare for the next wave. Anti-body testing to identify those infected and likely immune will bolster confidence. Gold standard imo will be a vaccination.

As for those flouting physical distancing, they may learn a hard lesson within two weeks or so. Problem is they leverage the spread to innocents.

No, it don't sound to promising to have a vaccine in a year, but hopefully there will be. I'm really worried about the rapid case increase in Texas because of my close proximity and I have a brother and cousin there. As of Friday here in Oklahoma we're not quite to 2,000 cases yet, but Texas is now increasing by over 1,000 new cases every day!. It was every 3 days, but now every day. Wednesday it was over 7,000 in Texas, Thursday over 8,000, then Friday over 9,000. If I lose my brother he's the only one I have left out of my immediate family.

The one thing to fight this thing is build immunity until there is a vaccine, and even when there is I will still strive to build immunity.

I hear you, Florida just shy of 19,000, we go up a thousand or more a day, but the split reported # in half, the last half comes out at 7pm
