Domnijoe - The Art Studio and Bird Herder's Residence

Congrats and welcome home Quasar! I hope he or she settles in smoothly.
So far, they've settled in nicely! Still rejecting nutriberries and chop/pellets, but that will come with time :D.

I can't remember if I mentioned it, but Yvons allowed me to scratch his head a few days ago through the bars of the cage. He was blissed out, too! Little stinker didn't even try to lunge at me!

Then there's Quasar. He's nipped me four times already since Sunday, just when I'm servicing food bowls. Not hard, but enough to know that he's there, LOL!! He's mostly quiet, but seems to be getting used to everything.

MY stinkers are lovable companions! :D.

Day 3 and a half with Quasar. He actually ate a Nutriberry today. He kept throwing them onto the floor of the cage, and I kept replacing them. FINALLY, he decided it would be okay to taste one. LOL.. He has to nip me every time I stick my hand in the cage. What a little stinker! I'm also watching Paranormal Quest, which is a ghost-hunting show. One of their pieces of equipment is going off, and Quasar is screeching, trying to mimic the noise. He has the pitch and volume right, but not the actual dynamics. Not even Yvons has done that, LOL!!

Yvons has started calling me 'Wooooooot!' when he sees me, usually in the morning or when I service his cage. Very comical. Quasar is fitting in nicely, though he's nippy as all hells and will actively follow my hands to plant his beak on me. He's NOT tame, which I don't care about. As long as I can feed him with skin intact, I'll be a happy panda :D.

Vortex is her usual bratty self. Want more selfies with her, so I'll see if I can grab some later on today before Yvons is let out for the night. Charlie and Red are happy. Red is currently greeting the morning with his whistles, and Charlie is, well, being Charlie. LOL!

Sooooo, yeah. Quasar and Yvons seem to be watching each other from across the room. I've caught Yvons bobbing his head after Quasar. It's hilarious to see. And I caught Quasar eating his veggies today! Just trying to convince him that almonds and Nutriberries are not poison :P

The drama. It unfolds every day, LOL!

I have insomnia, so I'm posting here again. I removed the acrylic foraging toy from Yvons' cage and put it in Vortex's. Here's hoping she'll figure it out :)

New updates on Yvons! He's exploring outside his cage! I caught him wanting to climb onto my bookshelf today, and yesterday, he was eyeing the birdie play gym. He was streeeeeeetching as far as he could, nibbling it, but didn't actually get on it. Considering he was avoiding being outside the cage's confines for over 4 months, I say this is progress :D.

I also make this waaaa waaaa waaa waaaaaaaa sound and Yvons is trying to mimic it. Its comical hearing him. At first, it sounded like a derranged laugh, but he's starting to mimic it decently. He's not got it down perfectly yet, but he tries so hard to make it.

Stupid question - is it okay for Greys to have Budgie seed ? Or is it too small? I'd like to give Yvons some as a treat, but I don't know if he'd have to struggle with it. Right now, the only seed anyone is getting is the Nutriberries I'm offering, and the budgie food Quasar is getting, as he apparently was on an all seed diet. Slowly converting him to pellets and veggies :) .

Budgie seed is basically millet, canary grass seed and oats groats, which a lot of birds love.

Nutriberries vary by the variety but most contain hulled millet and canary grass seed plus oats groats, cracked corn, sunflower meats, safflower seed, peanuts (some have dried fruits), canola oil, soybean meal, wheat flour, ground rice, and binders like corn syrup, glycerin and maltodextrin. Plus added vitamins and minerals.
The binder is how the added nutrients get consumed. The fact that all these seeds are hulled allows the binder to get swallowed instead of discarded when the bird hulls the seeds.

So, are budgie seeds too small for a CAG? Nope! The seeds look tiny to us big two legged silly creatures but to a CAG they're little bite sized morsels. They can easily hull the seeds and swallow the good part.

Hi, Quasar! Lookin good!

Phew! Thanks! I think I'll sprinkle some seed over Yvons' wet food, then. I'm sure he'll LOVE that, LOL!!

And Quasar says rawwwr. He thinks he's a dinosaur with all the nipping around his cage. He's a brat, but a cutie :D.

I got nailed twice today. Gently, but nailed. First was Quasar when I was trying to service his cage. I stuck my hand in the cage to pull out a food bowl and BAM. Like a sewing needle. Not even hard enough to bruise, but it was uncomfy.

Then Yvons did it. I didn't move fast enough when removing the perch from the open cage top and he nipped me. It wasn't a lunge, than God. it was more of a long, thought out crawl. I could see it coming a mile away, LOL!

Love my stinkers!

Nameliss nearly nailed me. She beat to the reprimand of bad bird. She was on lockdown because of pulling tabs off my keyboard earlier. I was mad because the older unreliable was ignored. She got the newer one. At least I got the tabs before she decided to chew the edges. I'm also angry with myself. It's been so long since her last keyboard attack I got careless.

I give Nameliss approximately an eighth tsp of chia seeds most days. Those seeds are tiny, tiny and I mean tiny. I add to wet food. It encourages her to take a taste of what she considers 'dreads'. Nameliss loves chia. Because the seeds are so tiny she has to actually taste 'dreads' to get every possible seed. Chia are high in a lot of good things. They're something I can eat too to save on waste. Nameliss has trouble keeping her weight up. Chia add higher calorie that is easier to control compared to some options. They're also relatively inexpensive.

Nameliss fooled me and my daughter. I put her in play area. Then took her cage outside for a cleaning. I went back to check on her before starting. She wasn't to be seen. 80% she stays in area. 19% she gets on floor often under things. I froze because I didn't want to step on her. I called and she answered. That room is small and sound bounces around. My daughter and I thought she was under bed. She was yelling peekaboo, laughing etc. I looked up as I started to lower my geriatric knees to floor. She was on top of door! She was just out of reach. For some reason she acted like stepping down wasn't possible. I was thinking about the step ladder when she stepped down. Then she laughed at me. It caught me off guard. Nameliss rarely flies about. I hope this isn't a trend

I swear I had a Houdini cockatiel some years ago. She would be let out, and I would find her in the tightest, most out-of-place areas in the bird room... like my wall unit, tucked behind several bags. probably looking for nesting spots, the wee stinker. Thankfully, Yvons prefers to hang out on his cage rather than explore. Once in a while, he'll look like he wants to expand his territory, but it hasn't gone further than that.

My budgie Joey likes to hide in the pockets of my bathrobe hanging on the back of my bedroom door. I tried turning it inside out to make it hard for her to find them but she still does. She's pretty obsessed like that.

Pocket hiding seems to be fun for Joey. Nameliss prefers hoodies that I'm wearing. She has a fit bouncing around until I put her in it. I have a blizzard and several days of power outage to blame.

Any new pics on your flock? How is your dog accepting these newbies in such a short time?

Lots of pix of the flock! Just have to load the new ones to the computer, LOL! The dog sees the birds... rather, what they toss... as an all-you-can-eat buffet. The only time she shows interest in them is when they flap (Working on calming her down when they do that. Hard as hell, as Winter is so prey driven!) and when they're fed. Whether it's seeds or pellets, or vegetables, the dog loves them. Yvons hasn't called her anything yet, though he does tell her to ''shuddup!' when she barks.

More pix, as requested:

Charlie being cranky. He's happy until I take pix of him, the wee snot.

Vortex being a brat. I've noticed the birds will become aggressive little sh!ts when the camera comes out, LOL!

and lastly, Quasar. I haven't told my family or my friends about him because I know they'd lose their minds knowing I've got another bird. They'll find out. Eventually :D. Especially my family. They think I should have two birds and one dog... I'm 50, living alone, and I still have issues with family. Le sigh.
