Domnijoe - The Art Studio and Bird Herder's Residence

Yvons really likes Doo-Wop. As in he was trying to sing to it! Who woulda Thunk it? :D.

Do you like DOO-WOP? If you like it, go for it. Get him to doo-wop a video for you to post! It'll be really good if he bobs along too.

With your dog situation, how much out of cage or open cage door time do your birds get every day? What do you do with your dog when the birds are out?

By the way, it's your life and your apartment. As long as you have the room, can afford to feed them, and are keeping their cages and your apartment reasonably clean, and your landlord hasn't complained, it's none of your family's business how many birds you have. Even if your family helps support you, as is the case with many people, you're a grown up middle aged adult and shouldn't have to worry about their opinion.

Everyone gets about an hour and a half to two hours a day out-of-cage time. During this time, the cats get plopped in the bedroom, and Winter, the dog, is on a leash and kept very close to me. Only Quasar isn't out during this time, as I'm trying to find a safe situation for him, the dog, the other birds, and I.

And thank you :) The landlord hasn't said anything about the number of animals I've had, and it's been over a year since I've had most of the birds and cats. If there were any serious problems, I'd have heard something by now :)

On a completely different note - I've had Vertigo recently. Makes letting the birds out and watching the dog a challenge. Trying to make it up to the critters by letting them out longer when I can have them out.

I enjoy Doo-wop! Yvons will bob his head on occasion. Caught him actually singing to it yesterday. I wish I had it on camera!!

Yvons nipped me pretty hard yesterday. Got a bruise to prove it, LOL. Only took him 5 months to decide I was flavorful enough for an actual nip. I saw him coming a mile away while I was taking down the cage top play area. I didn't move fast enough and BAM!

Trying to get Quasar to take treats from me. He still won't. Might have to try millet. :)

Well tell Yvonne you're not on the menu! Still it's good to see him coming out of his shell.

OUCH! It's good that you have a good attitude about it and don't take it personally.

Thanks :) It's hard not to take bites personally sometimes, especially when you've worked so hard on trust. I figure the less often I'm bitten, the more they're trusting me.

That's not the policy of Nameliss. She wants me to acknowledge that she through her beak is a threat. I'm to cringe in fear. Hence she grabs me, I am to yell a variation of ouch or pain. Then I will be released. I have wondered if it is a form of dominance. She's happy. I don't rock the boat.

Ouch! Yvons has picked up on me saying 'ouuuch' when I get up from the computer desk and has combined it with -' hole!'. He's a stinker.

And I did a thing. I bought a cage/chicken coop/rabbit cage to set up as a dog-proof play area for the birds. It's got okay reviews for chickens, bad ones for chickens outdoors, but as I have no chicks and will be strictly indoors, Don't plan on keeping anyone in the eperminantly, I should be okay. Just where am I gonna put an 81-inch chicken coop? LOL!!

Are any of your flock feathered Houdini's? If not that sounds like a plan.

Thank god no one is a Houdini out here. Yvons miiiight learn to work the doors, but I don't think so. Yet.

Quasar has the most annoying habit. He boinks his metal food bowl with his head until it falls out of its holder, contents and all. I love the stinker, but some days the racket grates on me. The good news is that I've ordered some vet wrap. If I wrap some around the holder's base, I should have less of a problem. I think I got the idea from this forum, as someone's bird had a similar fetish. Yvons does it too, on occasion. It's amusing seeing him balance the bowls, tho, LOL!

Why not get a metal bowl like this one: it's called Snap'y fit pet food bowl and the bowl locks in. Ebay and Walmart sell it. Don't know about Canada.

I used to have one of those! I dunno where mine went... Gonna have to look for it in the bird cage paper box, as I store weird, unused stuff in there, LOL!

I found my Snap'y pet food bowl! The sad thing is that it's too big for a green-cheeked conure, but it's perfect for Yvons. I might end up sticking it in the parrot coop. I have soooo many branches and perches too! And the Snap'y food bowl for a green cheek is on my 'to get' list.

I have one of those. I use it for travel.

When we have birds for as long as some of us have we accumulate a huge amount of "bird stuff", don't we? I have enough extra perches, bowls, swings, old toys, and cages to have anothe dozen budgies at least! Gee, maybe . . .

And if we don't have the room for more small cages, WE BUILD THE CAGES BIGGER!!!!
