I lost maggie tonight!!

Trying to think of ways not yet tried.....

This is political season, and we have all been annoyed by candidate robo-calls. Wondering if there is a way to create a clever call targeted to landline and cellphones* in your area? If the first few words of the call pertained to a lost animal, it would be unusual and likely be noticed. Must be specialty companies set up for this approach, particularly during the election cycle.

Most folks have internet exposure, even if limited to surfing online. Might there be a way to place a Lost Pet ad that is targeted to your area? While Googling, came across "GoogleAds." While it is targeted to a business that triggers with specific searches. Perhaps they have a generalized public service pop-up to generic activity? They are currently closed, but will call them tomorrow.

*Cellphones have no home base, but perhaps there may be a way to link with activated accounts in an area?

Keep trying...the person who has Maggie did not just phone that vet in isolation they would have phoned lots of other places too if not other vets...that number is somewhere waiting to be found...keep looking...keep thinking of new places to look...recheck shelters other vets in the vicinity, ask to speak only to staff who manned phones on the day the vet got that call and on the following or preceeding days...somebody somewhere has a record of their call...you will find that number yet and it will lead to Maggies safe return

I did recheck, re-advise all the vets, pet stores, and shelters in the area.

Nothing.

I redid my ad in the newspaper.

I redid all my Craig's list ads.

I did another round of plastering flyers all over the neighborhoods...

Thus far, they've made one phone call trying to find me. And of course, I still going out of my mind with worry, about what kind of shape is she in, does she need vet care? Will she get it if she does?

Mark - I'm new to the community and very far from you, but my heart is absolutely breaking for you. I'm not sure if you have an Instagram account or not, and if you don't, i'd be happy to sound the alarm on there for you and Maggie. I didn't want to do anything without your permission. I can't even imagine how you're holding up. Please let me know if there is absolutely anything that I can do.

Have Libraries, Med Centres, Community Centres, youth clubs, gym clubs, OAP centres been covered with flyers?

My daughter did one when it first happened, but anything that helps is a blessing, and you don't need my permission to help!!! I'd never say no to helping...

There are none, really, in the area where she was lost.

They did care enough to make one phone call that you know of and Im betting they probably made lots of others too just not in the usual places we might look...sometimes the most obvious place to a parrot person is not always the most obvious place to a non parrot person. Fact is Maggie is in the hands of people who care...how much they know about parrots is debatable but perhaps they have looked up in the library or online and are learning how to take good care of Maggie...not as good a care as you would obviously, but good enough to keep her in good health until you find her. If these people didnt care they would never have made the initial call to the vet in the first place. I have to believe Maggie found good people to care for her until you find her and bring her home and you will find her Mark and bring her home and probably make new friends in the process.

Thinking of you and Maggie today.

I ABSOLUTELY believe she was found by good people who want to find her owner. Which makes it twice as frustrating that they haven't found me yet!

What scares me is how long is a novice gonna keep a large macaw in their home, if they have no facilities for it? And WHO will these people give the bird to if they don't find me soon?! They found her Saturday late afternoon. It's TUESDAY.

I'm thinking I'll drop off flyers at all the area churches, asking the powers that be to make an announcement. SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND, RIGHT?!

That's about the only place left to go.

Obviously she came down in a different subdivision than the ones I have been targeting, BUT WHERE?!

Randomly putting out flyers doesn't seem especially effective.

When Tusk was lost they found my Craig's List ad...

Tusk's buddy bird(s) that I found ALSO made it home after being posted on Craig's List... I always considered that the "go to" place for lost pet ads.

Please reconsider getting yard signs made up and putting them at intersections in the area. This will get you the most relevant exposure. It won't be cheap but at this point, all the other options have not yielded Maggie's safe return.

The vast majority of these subdivisions have HOA's prohibiting yard signs... they'd be taken down the instant they were put up.

Ok. Is it worth it in terms of people know people who talk to some other people, going out a bit wider?

Good point. Trish's (Betrisher) bird was found a month later, 10 km away from where he was lost. And Barney is a much smaller and less powerful bird who was never free flown. Definitely worth widening the net, I think.

Well, I'm thinking who ever found him lives near the vet, which is actually a better area of town, and a few miles from where I've been looking, but still in the same generally vicinity.

Based on the phone call to the vet, we absolutely know she's been found. What happens after that, we don't know.

Downside: These are all gated communities where I can't get in to distribute flyers.

Upside: They have the resources to properly care for a macaw, if they find her.

Another upside: They will all have neighborhood lost pet apps.

Talk to the gate guard(s). I've seen lost pet flyers in the little guard kiosks here in Houston, which would be ideal anyways since everyone in the neighborhoods has to go through them. All they would have to do is keep one flyer in there and all residents would see it.

Might the San Antonio public-access TV channels have a format for lost-pet public service information? Perhaps in the form of a "scroll" at the bottom of the screen?

https://www.sanantonio.gov/commpa/accesschannels.aspx

They seem to have cable and school presence.

Mark, don't recall if you've posted fliers at schools?

I'm not sure if anybody has suggested this yet but while thinking to myself this came to my mind. A couple of years ago a friend of mine had his African grey, Ozzi stolen from in front of his house. A Facebook page was created called Bring Ozzi Home. Sadly, Ozzi was found shortly after in a wooded area near my friends house as he had been the victim of some vicious teenagers thinking that it would be fun to kidnap and kill a living thing :(. The Facebook page title was updated to Justice for Ozzi. It was a big thing in the news and some of you may have heard about this. Anyways, the point is that Facebook page gave a really good media platform for people to share thoughts, links, and and such. In this day and age a lot of people get their news and even live a big portion of their lives online and this Facebook page can have links to Twitter accounts, Instagram accounts, and things like that as well. Thankfully, in Maggie's case we know she has been found. But, although some people may have limited presence online almost everybody has Facebook or has a family member who has Facebook. The link to Maggie's page can be updated on all of your printed material and all of the online material such as parrot 911 and parrot forums and all that stuff. So, essentially it's a lost parrot page dedicated to Maggie pretty much. I don't know anybody think that would be a good idea or any more useful than what's already going on online? I put a link to Ozzi's page to give you an idea what a page like this may look like.
