I lost maggie tonight!!

Well that's what I said. Don't stop looking and don't rule any possibility out.
I'm not saying an illogical possibility. Any REASONABLE one.

I try not to discourage any lead, although it was difficult to be polite to the man who had me drop everything and go running up the hill over a woodpecker...

Last weekend, for example, I got no less than FIVE calls on macaws for sale (ALL OF THEM WERE SCARLETS! NOT A SINGLE GREENWING IN THE BUNCH!) I was putting out flyers in the next neighborhood over, and dropped everything, and went running across town, several different times... ONLY TO RUN BACK ACROSS TOWN... Didn't finish until 8:00 p.m. "Sorry for bothering you. I'm looking for a lost greenwing. Someone said you were selling one. Obviously I was misinformed." (Yeah. Five different times.) But thank you for looking... if it was my bird, I need to know this.

Confusing a greenwing and a scarlet isn't the same as confusing a greenwing and a woodpecker!

And like I say, I'd rather chase down a bad lead, than have a lead that was REAL not get reported because the person didn't think it was important.

But I also had someone call me about what turned out to be someone in the neighborhood, who had a pet yellow nape amazon - a bird they'd also had for many years, as in, you saw them with this bird before mine ever went missing, so why did you call me? No. Sorry. I'm not looking for a green bird, a GREEN WING MACAW... LIKE THE ONE IN THE PICTURE ON THE FLYER... ("Oh, that one, no, I didn't see that one. I saw a green bird. Does this mean I don't get the thousand dollars?!")

I mean at least the woodpecker had some red feathers on it! Y'know?!

And one guy I was working in this guys back yard, and I think he has your bird. I heard it... (Yeah. It was a CAG playing in his outdoor flight.) Some of these people are probably deliberately messing with me... (or, I suspect, the homeowner in the case of the CAG.)

Every time I get one of these calls, I jump three feet. Way up, and then crashed to the ground. Followed by nothing. Followed by way up, and then crashed to the ground again. So, it gets very frustrating and exasperating. Not to mention time consuming.

There's an archived add about a greenwing for sale in NEW YORK CITY posted NOVEMBER of 2013... Ummmm.... thank you for the lead, but I lost my bird on April 2, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas. This can't possibly be mine.

BUT YOU CHECK OUT THESE LEADS ANYWAY. YOU HAVE TO!!! BECAUSE ONE OF THESE DAYS IT MIGHT JUST BE MAGGIE'S "HI!" AND HAPPY HEAD BOB ROUTINE...

You worry when you're not getting any leads. But some of these are just blatant wishful thinking on the part of the tipster. I get it, we all want this to have a happy ending, AND EVERYONE is working very hard. AND I AM GRATEFUL... but this is what my life has been like for a month now. Not to discourage anyone from looking... but this is what sifting through the haystack is like, looking for my big red goofy needle... What helps me sift, is looking at posting dates, looking to see if it's actually the right species (although we did get the Military Macaw home, so THAT owner was very grateful, and thank you for that!) things like that really are helpful in cutting down the false leads.

That's all I'm saying...

AND I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY DO APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU HELPING WITH THIS, IT'S JUST A DIFFICULT THING TO DEAL WITH ON THE DAILY...

While it's possible that someone found my bird in San Antonio, then drove it or shipped it cross country, and is now selling it at a flea market in Des Moines, Iowa... in all probability, that's not my bird.

That's all I was saying.

Hopefully I haven't just alienated everyone who was helping me look... NOT WHAT I MEANT... I'm just venting my frustration more than anything. This is what life is likely to be like for the near future.

And if I come off as an A****** right now, it's probably the fatigue factor.

Mark I know I sent you some bad leads just in case and you wenf through that. I apologize. If I see any more I will still send them to you. Like you said if I quit and its Maggie you miss out. I will try to check dates and stuff better.

I wont stop trying to help. My car is running again. I was thinking of going over there and walking in some of the wooded fields I saw last time.

She's out there Mark, and even if they aren't the right leads YET at least you are getting leads.

You didn't send me any bad leads. You sent me greenwings for sale in this area... they just weren't mine.

That's different. That's exactly what I need people to do...!!!

(Not ads for SEVERE MACAWS, MILITARY MACAWS, HYACINTH MACAWS, AMAZONS, CONURES, ETC... )

I've been getting just "random bird" things... and that's not particularly helpful. "My neighbor has a pet yellow nape, maybe it's your greenwing... " is more like, "I HATE my neighbor, and calling you and telling you she's got your bird is just my little way of messing with her... " so I'm getting that sort of stuff. Welcome to the neighborhood feud...

I'm sure the folks who called on the flea market birds were sincere, they just couldn't tell the difference between a greenwing and a scarlet. In the meantime, I'm going all over the place searching these flea markets instead of systematically putting out flyers in the next neighborhood down.

And like I say, the Military Macaw did make it home from what I understand... so perhaps that one was a blessing in disguise.

Hey Mark, mentioning the lack of Facebook usage, I was wondering if someone could possibly look into a "Lost Pets" page for your area. I know here in my city we have one, and lots of animals find their way home because of the social media exposure. Part of me wonders if it's possible that being on a page like that or even posting on something like that page could immensely help the scope of individuals who know. It could also bring up more accurate leads, or end up being shared by someone who knows someone... you get the drift.

Just a thought!

TRUE.

And that's how you get them back!

The leads come in fits and starts too... that's part of the frustrating thing.

Weekends at the flea market. "I just saw someone selling your bird... "

I'm on all of those that I could find... BUT I'D LIKE TO BE ON ALL OF THEM PERIOD in this area!

My sister IS a facebook user, and said that she's only seen a couple of facebook posts about Maggie... even though we've had, like, tens of thousands of hits on this thread.

I'm wondering is it being shared in the right place? I wonder if only the bird people are finding out about it. I've got her on all the neighborhood phone apps for the neighborhoods where they have those things...

Thus far, those have only produced "family feud" kinds of leads (and the woodpecker!)

ANYTHING ANYONE CAN DO TO GET THIS PUBLICIZED I AM GRATEFUL!!!

I've walked all those tree lines multiple times, including with Wendy's macaw calls. No trace of her.

I still go back to that call to the vet. "I FOUND A BIG RED BIRD..."

Yeah. I get frustrated every time I think about it. That's gotta be Maggie. Someone has her. And she would have been home more than a week ago if someone had just gotten contact info, or given mine!

Someone has her.

I don't use Facebook either, but I too wonder if it's not being shared in the "right" places where it will be viewed by non-bird people as well?

I put a few feelers out in the small bird world on Instagram and Facebook. Hoping one of the little bird parronts shares with the big bird parronts.

That's my thought, too. A lot of radio stations have Facebook pages, and a lot of people follow those. It may be possible to reach out to them, with the mention of the news story that was covered and the sharing of the poster with the reward. Generally they don't post lost pets because of how many they'd be swamped with, but there's a possibility they may because of the news story. If there's a written article by the news team that covered it, you could ask them to share that alongside the poster and the reach could be absolutely huge if it works out.

Has anyone seen this?

Seen it. Talked to the Foster Parront several times. She actually runs a rescue. We haven't met, but I know of her. It's a legit rescue...

That's Ruby! She looks like Maggie. Doesn't talk like Maggie. Likes men. Apparently not so good with women and children... Had a legit source turning it in to the rescue. He was transferred out of the country, couldn't take his bird with her. Had to place her. They're asking 1,100 for her with cage... (Tempted myself. Socialization issues are easy rehabs.)

These are actually good leads to at least look at. (Even though this bird is in the Dallas metro area.) And the kind of stuff I should be focusing on.

We had this really cool greenwing turned into the rescue, and she's up for adoption right now...

If you found one, and couldn't find the owner, who would you call, right?!

Yeah. I've run into that explanation a lot.

That's terrible! Why do they allow posting of so many weddings then? Or people partying, etc. Sad, the pets take the back burner.

I'm running low on ideas but just know Maggie's flyer is out there all over facebook. People from New Jersey, Michigan, California, Florida, New York, Arizona...everyone is sharing. Its made the top posts for a few different rescues and greenwing groups. I just wanted you to know...

That's what I thought... AND THANK YOU.

My sister's point was that it's being posted more within the "parrot" communities, and less within the general San Antonio population.

I'm wondering if there is a way to increase the general presence in the San Antonio area. And how I go about doing that? Cuz I have ZERO skills at that.

I'd say that getting as many people in the San Antonio area (regardless as to whether they are bird lovers or not) will get it out there. "Hash tags" works wonders, especially with the younger crowd. Just today I shared her flyer on instagram again and it was picked up and shared by two individuals in San Antonio and a housing developer in the area. The more followers they have the more people see her face and, i hate to say it but, the reward. The same goes for facebook. The more people "tagged" in the posts and the more "hash tags" used the better. Someone may happen to search for "loveinsanantonio", "macawsoftexas", "reward", or "lovetexas" and Maggie will show up. Anything that you could pretty much possibly think of related to Maggie will help. I'd even go as far as tagging "local celebrities" like news anchors, radio personalities and such.

How about trying to reach people through the various churches...if they are like our churches here in Ireland Im sure they would be willing to make an announcement at their services or put a little section about Maggie in their weekly parish newsletters....just a thought but perhaps you have already covered that avenue already. Also you could try neighbourhood watch groups. They could get the word out too and reach a whole lot of people. Also any social clubs in San Antonio might help get the word out .
