Hi, need some help! I just got a nice big cage for my cockatiel Piccolo, but while putting it together, I realised the way they designed the sides to join together makes these really small bar spaces on all the corners, ranging around 3-5mm! Could Piccolo get his feet caught in these while climbing around, or are they too small?

If it's bad and i find out quickly enough, i might be able to return it and get a better one. If not, what can i do to make it safe? One idea i had was wrapping a bunch of twine around the corners until it filled the gaps, but i dunno, lots of work and he'll probably chew through it.

He's a temporary foster, it's a yes4pets 95×75×180h with 1.2cm bar spacing, and i wanted a cage i can use for rats after, i don't know if those gaps are safe for rats either but the kogan ad said for birds and rats.

Welcome to the forums @PiccoloTheLoud. Is this by chance the cage you bought?

Honestly I think it's a bit of a stretch them selling that as a parrot cage, it looks like it might be more suitable for rats or ferrets. Kogan is an Australian online retailer, so I assume you are in Australia like me. If you're not able to go to a shop and view the cages yourself, you may find the bird cages at www.petshopdirect.com.au a bit more suitable. They're in Sydney and I'm in Queensland and I buy from them a fair bit, their shipping is generally pretty quick!

I see what you mean by the tight bar spacing at the corners. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. It's possible Piccolo could get a leg trapped but I think its unlikely. However, if you're that concerned return it and get something else.
I like the size of the cage except it's so tall and birds don't use the bottom half so it's wasted space.
