Right now Salty is.....

Wooooot, Salty! :D

1 bag green beans, cut into 1" pcs
1 pkg sweet potato chunks, small
1 bag kale
1 bag big handful jalapeno peppers
1 bag 3 big handful habanero peppers
1 bag w 10 poblano peppers
1 red bell pepper
1 head radicchio
1 bag matchstick carrot

All tucked away into the deep freezer.

It is, but not when I forget to get all the oils and stuff from the hot peppers off my hands and goto rub my eye! YEOWCH! I dread the day I put in just one wrong ingredient, and Salty refuses to eat the whole batch. Thats's the day the family and neighbors get an invite to Al's Veggie Soup Extravaganza.

I don't put cayenne pepper in my wild bird food because although I don't want to feed all the squirrels in the woods around my house I don't want them to suffer when they try to groom their faces after getting pepper on their little paws!

I now consider jalapeno peppers mild. My daughter got Nameliss to prefer in ascending order; ghost, scorpion and Carolina reaper. Until recently Carolina was #1 worlds hottest, now demoted #2. The others and their varieties stay in or near top ten. I keep gloves in easy reach. But very rarely do I consistently remember to use them. It never fails that I get an itch somewhere on my head. My recipe is a very poor imitation. I add cubed yellow squash. Would Mr Particular consider that acceptable? I ask because Ms Particular gives them a nod.

1st trial last nite - cubed sweet tater and pasta rejected. Which is funny cuz COOKED sweet taters is one of his very favorites, followed closely by pasta. Maybe cuz its just a new addition to chop and weird pasta shape. Like it or lump it, bud, its whats for dinner for the next 3 months!

Like the old joke ' 2 canibals eating clown stew "Does this taste funny to you?"

For Thanksgiving and when ever I get a craving for sweet potato or pumpkin I make Nameliss a birdie version. Pureed sweet potatoes or pumpkin add an egg beat well. Put a bit of pie crust in a muffin tin, add sweet potatoes or pumpkin bake as normal, Nameliss has hers, I have mine. Sometimes I'll top both with crushed almonds or pecans. Nameliss is happy.

One of the things I love about Salty is that he still loves to play fight with me like when he was a baby, but unlike most Amazons, he can hold it together for quite awhile before he goes off the deep end. Lately its been - nice long scritching session followed by some play time and even cuddling, which he usually does not care for. We let his wings grow out and he's been doing a bit of flying, just from his playchain over to the stair railing, where he just hangs out and looks around.

He's acclimated to the new chop just fine now, just took a few days. And loving his Nutraberries, Sunny Orchard flavor. Not so much the Tropical fruit blend but I throw some in his bowl once in awhile. Some days he chows down on the pellets, some days it seems like he eats 3 or 4 of them!

Have you always kept Salty's wings trimmed? Are you worried about him escaping when you bring him out in public to perform?

He's usually trimmed. Salty does not do public performances. If he is out in public, its on my shoulder in a harness.

I thought he did demonstrations of his tricks to places like nursing homes and schools. Maybe I'm thinking about a different bird.

If he doesn't go outside unharnassed, why are his wings trimmed? Is he a "flight risk"? Listen, I'm not judging your decision other than to agree that it can be necessary for the bird's safety, and sometimes the human's safety. I just re-trimmed one of my budgie's wings because she won't go back in her cage at night like the others without a 30+ minute chase which isn't any fun for anyone.

No worries. Geri is wheelchair bound and when I'm away at gigs, Salty can be hard to reach/control if he is flighted. Now that I am off for the winter until April, we let his wings grow out.
