I too was meant to get another Eckie. I had put down a deposit on a female and when we went to see the breeder she showed me my little girl who was only 4 weeks old snuggled in with a boy the same age. I really really wanted the girl!
The day before we went to get her I was at the pet shop buying some last minute things and mentioned we were picking up our eckie tomorrow to the salesman. He asked me what we were getting and I told him a girl and he said " oh no, couldn't you get a boy? Girls are so nippy and hormonal" and he made me doubt my choice. I rang the breeder and asked her what she thought and she said "yes they can be but she can usually pick the girls with those tendencies and she generally keeps them for breeding however this one had a nice personality. She then said she still had the boy and if I wanted to swap I could.
All day I swapped from boy to girl and finally it was time to go and pick our baby up. I had decided, we were taking our girl.........we got to the breeders house and she asked me what I decided and I said "girl". I went to the cage and went to pick her up and WHAM! she bit me! The boy who was in the same cage walked right over to me, looked at my hand and hopped right on and that was it.........he was my baby!
Sometimes we choose our birds and sometimes they choose us. Whatever way it happens, as others have said, it happens for a reason.

As an aside, I contacted the breeder a few weeks later to ask if she still had the girl and she told me she had been sold the next week to a lady who had wanted a boy but took one look at her and bought her on the spot.
 
I'm glad you've gotten in touch with another breeder. I do hope they find Rocky though.

Good luck with your new baby & don't you dare feel stupid for getting excited about getting a new bird. It's IS exciting and it's fun getting everything ready set up for their arrival. I hope you're okay, I know this is so hard right now and I'm glad the breeder is giving you time with the money etc because of your situation.

but it seems like you found another one, which was what i was gonna suggest from your
initial post. still, i hope they find the baby that flew away. poor bird. ;\
 
So sorry Sadie, But it sounds like this new Baby was just meant to be :) I hope the other one is found safe and sound though!
 
you all have been so wonderful! I turned in early last night as i had a horrible stress headache that pills nor a hot shower would get rid of! I think i am going to be ok now. i got my refund confirmation. Just waiting for it to show up on my card. regardless i will be paying for the other bird today. I have no idea how long after she will get him shipped, but im kinda worn out on waiting so im just not feeling as excited.
The breeder of rocky called me last night to formally apologize. i could tell he felt horrible and i think he was suprised i wasnt nasty or taking it on on him. I know it wasnt intentional and im sure he is just as upset, even if he doesnt care about the birds which i think he does, that was quite a bit of money flying away.... but he did sound upset and he said he and his whole crew were looking for him and calling for him for about 5 hours before deciding to get a hold of me.

i was attached to rocky and as nice as this other one sounds im not as excited to meet him. I hope that is normal. and what about the name rocky? i dont feel like i should reuse the name, i never met the original rocky, but it just doesnt seem right? I think i will get the new one home before committing to a name...

you guys really kept me going yesterday! Thank you all for caring!
 
it's ok hun just relax until you feel better. i understand about not wanting to use the same
name, i do that too. a new one will come to you eventually, and don't worry about not
being "excited" about the new bird. you're just upset still over rocky. you'll start to love
the new one just as much in no time! (:
 
It is normal not to feel excited about the other bird . Your conscience is telling you to morn the other yet and it doesn't feel right to be excited because you feel you might be betraying Rocky. ( Just how I see it anyway , I'm not a doctor , lolol. But it's how I would feel )
You will , in time feel better and you will let go of those feelings and start "nesting" again and planning on your new arrival :)

do not be hard on yourself you were dealt an awful emtional blow right now. i agree sometimes things to happen for a reason. In april of 1996 my husband went to a dog show and came home with a 3 mo minpin named rex that he bought from a breeder, handler. She took him everyweekend to show him and he would stay with her then we would pick him up sun night. he had 9 points toward his championship. late that august I had back surgery and was recovering when he went to his last show in conn. she asked to keep him one more day as it was bad weather and very late. the next day we she called and she had gone out for a couple of hours and her dogs had killed mine. we were devastated. to make a long story short we picked up his body and she gave us our little girl minpin abby who became mine. a year later when she bred the parrents again she gave us Phoenix . rex's brother ,different litter. he and my husband have been totally bonded for the last 15 years and is that once in a lifetime dog you always want in your life if you like dogs. always in his lap follows him everywhere etc. I wish you luck and let us know what happens. Oh Sadie, I'm so sorry to hear that! And yeah, it's normal to not feel nearly as excited about the new one as you did about the Original; you've had quite an emotional upheaval and so it makes sense. No one, including yourself, can be expected to go from unadulterated jubilation and preparation, to heart ache, to mourning, to jubilation again all in the same day. It's not logical.

You will get excited about the new bird, particularly once he's home with you. I originally had myself set on a Moluccan Cockatoo only to find out that she had already had a deposited put on her. Turned out to work for the best because now I'm getting Sugar, a Goffin Cockatoo who will fit much better into our family and living situation than the Moluccan most likely would have. Everything works out for a reason!

Once your new guy arrives, just take some time to get to know him before naming him. You don't have to call him Rocky unless that's what you absolutely have to do. I also tend not to reuse names of my own pets (that doesn't mean other people's are off limits though ;) ), so I get that completely. Good luck!!
 
well, eclectus 2 is paid for. She said she was going to call me today with the shipping time. She is making it for monday. yay i guess...yeah still not feeling it. Im sure once im at the airport i will be excited. i just dont want to go through that again. so until he is here whatever happens happens. thank you guys so much. Forgive me if i steer clear of the forum for a bit. with any luck i will be back with pictures....

It will hit you when you see him, it probably won't feel real for a while. Don't forget, it is okay to cry and mourn your 'loss' of Rocky (even if he is alive and well). But; your new ekkie needs you and although I know you will compare to some extent, try not to let your 'I wish you were Rocky' kinda show.

Things will get easier, you'll love your new baby. Good luck xxx

This one is scheduled to come in at 6:04 on monday. Not feeling excited, but we have been looking at other names in case i cant see him being another rocky...

LOL you won't be able to sleep the night before. You just wait until you get that final confirmation your baby is at the airport, trust me you'll be more that excited.

I am beside myself with excitment for you Sadie. You are just going to be over the moon.
 
I don't think naming him Rocky would be the best idea because then you will always compare the two, how about Kermit.

she called today and let me know about where she was putting the food and an added leash because she was harness training the babies.
I heard him squawking in the background and my heart lit up :) i am so worried about him now! a 10 hour flight! sounds so long for a little bird!
I guess its ok though or they wouldn't do it. I am still so scared this isnt real and something is going to come up. I am so paranoid i asked her to call me at 5am to let me know when he was dropped of at the airport lol.
I am praying this time it is my baby, i just cant help but to be apprehensive and more scared than excited....

Just remember to take this new bird as he is. Let the relationship develop. I hope it is love at first sight for yo both.

When I say the name Kermit , the first thing that comes to mind is pork for some reason :p
You will be in love in no time Sadie . As soon as you two lock eyes , that will be the beginning of a beautiful relationship :D
