COVID-19 Virus

Re: Wuhan virus

An ugly development! The USA gets 90% of it’s ’shelf ready’ antibiotics and 80% of its compounds for drug manufacturing from–-guess–- China!
All manufacturing facilities are shut down!
Not good!
I know! As we stand, with out further world pandemic and if this was to resolve today.... Still sever global impact on goods, Walmart, Apple, car factory, tech...

The world has never seen anything like this in modern times.

There have been blow up of cases outside of China often linked to " Super spreaders" passing the infection on to 10 or 30 people ... So are they really super spreaders or is this thing that infectious...

New reports on the virus it has a protein cell percirng hook. ( By design.. paranoid here) that makes it more efficient and infective than any other coronavirus like SARS or MERS...

There are enough cases outside of China for science to start figuring out the stats.. so maybe soon we will know more on infection rate, and severity.

WHO does have America scienctidtd and others from around the world there now. So it's either well hidden ( cases or what not) or is coming under control, or things are so bad they are willing to have help...

What coronavirus does to your body explained in horrible detail. Incase you need something to keep you awake at night. This is for the 20-25 % severe cases. We still don't know if that would be lower and more people would have the mild symptoms.
https://api.nationalgeographic.com/.../02/here-is-what-coronavirus-does-to-the-body

22 cases brought to the us from cruise ship positive, with 16 more showing symptoms.....
All those people released from the ship in Japan....how many are spreading this...

One new case in California mention asa contact if a previous case....

Re: Wuhan virus

It was just reported to have shown up in China's penal system, especially in prisons in Hubei province. The governor of one prison was just dismissed for failing to exercise proper controls. I believe it was the guards that were affected but I could be wrong.

Re: Wuhan virus

More and more and more of the people released from the Diamond cruise ship are testing positive in their home countries.

This was not a completed quarantine on that ship, each time a new person tested positive for the virus, the clock should have reset.

Getting them off the ship great, but they all should have entered an on shore quarantine facilities for an additional 14 days.... This was just a problem everyone wanted to go away!so now there are thousands of spreaders released I to the world.... Ugh...

Central and South America not reporting any cases, yeah right.... Tourist dollars are to important....and lack of infrastructure and testing , not lack of coronavirus!!!

Biolevel 4 containment units used for hospitalized cases. There aren't that many available in the USA if that's what's really needed for each case. And yet the new positive California case that were home quarantined and his ( roommate?) Are still at home in self quarantine....how are they getting food and other stuff, how are they preventing further spread? Bio level 4 containment units verse just stay at home, how are these the same? Home tested positive cases should at least be moved to quarantine facilities.....

Re: Wuhan virus

I urge everyone to get two weeks or a months supply of your parrots and other pets food as extra back up to what you normally have.
If the CDC would do the same thing and lock down towns this must be a very serious virus.

The CDC is working with state and local health departments "to ready our public health workforce to respond to local cases and the possibility this outbreak could become a pandemic," she said, adding that the U.S. may need to institute stringent quarantine measures such as those currently in place in China where schools are closed to contain the spread.

10 new cases in Italy. 10 towns, 30,000 people, placed in precautionary voluntary quarantine. Schools, workplaces, municipal and private offices, coffee shops, and public places closed in the affected towns at least until Sunday. New cases include: doctors

7 new cases in the United States from the Diamond Princess cruise ship, in addition to the 11 previously confirmed, for a total of 18 from the ship. ( There are more pending)

Many passengers already left the ship and flew home to many different countries. 2 more people who left the ship and returned to Australia are positive

Edit : more cases in US
US officials have now confirmed 34 of novel coronavirus in the country, according to an announcement Friday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

These include 21 cases among repatriated individuals, as well as 13 US cases.

Edit : another home quarantined case is positive. Bringing us to 35. More will be announced CDC said.

Edit: Coronavirus COVID-19 represents "a tremendous public health threat" says CDC.

"We believe our aggressive travel precautions are working. The fact that we have been able to keep this number low [13 net cases, counting separately the 2 cases of people repatriated from Wuhan and the 18 cases of people returning from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan] is good news, especially given what we're seeing amongst some countries in Asia that are beginning to experience community spread: this is when cases are detected in a community but it's not known what the source of the infection was. This is being reported in Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam, as well as Hong Kong and Japan."

"We are not seeing community spread here in the United States, yet. But it is very possible, even likely, that it may eventually happen."

"This new virus represents a tremendous public health threat. We don't yet have a vaccine for this novel virus nor do we have a medicine to treat it specifically."

"We are now taking, and will continue to take, unprecedented aggressive actions to reduce the impact of this virus." [1]

Re: Wuhan virus

IH what? When did we get 70 uoto 76!! cases of coronavirus !!???!!!( Is this true )
https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2020/02/21/costa-mesa-coronavirus/

COSTA MESA (CBSLA) – Costa Mesa is trying to block as many as 70 confirmed coronavirus patients from being transferred to the city.

Federal court papers filed Friday state that the federal government plans to transfer the patients from Travis Air Force Base near Sacramento to the former Fairview Development Center on Sunday. Last night officials began hearing of the plan by the Department of Health and Human Services and the CDC to move between 30 and 76 patients to the state-owned land.

Some of the patients are from the Diamond Princess cruise ship from which more than 300 U.S. citizens were removed Monday.

Edit: seems legit. People are asking where are we hiding other cases if we declared to the word only 35 case....I agree
Also CDC is no longer listing their 52 pending cases that have been pending for over 3 weeks I might add. They took that down, now only provide info on confirmed cases, and info to doctors in what to do if you think you have a case........
If this is true I'm very ashamed that US hasn't been more forthright

Dud Nancy Meesioner mess up from CDC ??? Official tally is 35 American cases , but here she says 44!

So far, the United States has 44 cases, most of them among repatriated passengers from the Diamond Princess cruise ship, on which the virus become widespread while the ship was under quarantine in Yokohama, Japan.

Re: Wuhan virus

Went through 4 airports yesterday, San Diego, Houston, Washington-Dulles and Manchester NH. Between the 3 flights and 4 airports I saw less than 6 masked people and there was nobody coughing or sneezing. It is really weird because before this thread I never payed attention to this stuff and I would always notice a lot of masks and coughing/sneezing in the winter (I fly weekly) but this year where I'm looking for it I am not seeing it.

Re: Wuhan virus

This new Coronavirus doesn't cause the sneezing, coughing up stuff type of illness.

You maybe get a dry cough, feel a little tired. Then eight days later you get pneumonia, and organ failure in 20% if the cases...

That's why it's so difficult to track and get a handle on......

The Diamond cruise ship today
57 new cases (55 crew members and 2 passengers, of which 52 asymptomatic) and 1 new death (a man in his 80s) from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan.

Italy went from 30 to 134, 2 dead, 26-30 in critical care...
Italy's response:
11 towns, 50,000 people, placed in lockdown.
Armed forces and police forces have been mobilized to form an insurmountable "health belt" around contagion areas. Roadblock violators risk up to a 3 months prison sentence.

- Schools closed in Lombardy, Veneto, and in Trentino Alto Adige regions.

- Universities closed in Piedmont and Emilia Romagna regions.

Korea a massive jump in cases, and a few dead, rember takes 2 weeks to show symptom but you are still spreading the virus to others with no symptoms or fever... Then takes more time to know if those cases are going to be sever and have deaths..
it's a slow burn , unlike other viruses and diseases in which the infected show illness and fever right away making detection and isolation much easier .

Re: Wuhan virus

My point was here are not even the usual flu symptoms as in years past. Maybe the flu vaccine is spot on this year.

Re: Wuhan virus

Here’s what coronavirus does to the body
From blood storms to honeycomb lungs, here’s an organ-by-organ look at how COVID-19 harms humans.

That’s when phase two and the immune system kicks in. Aroused by the presence of a viral invader, our bodies step up to fight the disease by flooding the lungs with immune cells to clear away the damage and repair the lung tissue.
When working properly, this inflammatory process is tightly regulated and confined only to infected areas. But sometimes your immune system goes haywire and those cells kill anything in their way, including your healthy tissue.

During the third phase, lung damage continues to build—which can result in respiratory failure. Even if death doesn’t occur, some patients survive with permanent lung damage. According to the WHO, SARS punched holes in the lungs, giving them “a honeycomb-like appearance”—and these lesions are present in those afflicted by novel coronavirus, too.

From what I'm hearing; this years (2019 - 2020) Flu vaccine is 'near' spot-on, as it provides protection against three of the four variations.

Re: Wuhan virus

So like I predicted I did get normal flu last week. Parrots are fine didn't contract.

I'm all prepped up for emergency though, since coronavirus can jump species boundaries they say.

Don't let anyone shame you into not having extra preparedness. The coast guard motto is semper paratus "always prepared" And you can't have parrot without paratus.

I wish I had the funds to be that prepared! I just got one extra bag for the dogs and 2 for the parrots, for me 10 pounds of rice and five pounds of lentils cuz they cheap!

Hope you feel better!

yeah I'm fine for now....

Re: Wuhan virus

Take care to store your supplies in the coolest area of your home and out of direct sunlight.

The best way to shift from an as needed to buying in a bit larger qualities is to simply start. Not in huge qualities, but a bit more each time. Assure that you seal well your packaging and place the purchase date on your stores. Always rotate to assure that you are using the oldest its first. Watch your use by dates like a Hawk! There is no savings if your stocks goes bad!

You will be surprised at how quickly you will begin seeing your stocks begin to develop. It is a step by step process.

Nike is such a small bird that everything I buy lasts a month or two even when buying at the smallest, least cost efficient size so I always have plenty on hand. Plus I just ordered my usual 3-4 month supply of freeze dried chop.

Re: Wuhan virus

China just announced
989 deaths today!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if that is a real day total or if they are playing catch up to past unrecorded death!!!
Holy cow!
@@

It just got changed to 150 deaths, no explanation given if why the large number and why the change......
Soooo I don't know??? I saw it in their report. . Then it changed

Re: Wuhan virus

they are saying if it goes widespread it will be 60% infection rate and 2-3% fatality.

350,000,000 americans give or take,

350,000,000*.60 = 210,000,000 will be infected

mortality rate of say 2%

210,000,000*.02 = 4,200,000 fatalities....

And that's not counting parrots...our most important resource.

4.2 million deaths....I personally don't think it will be that bad, but it's a valid projection they are throwing out there and using math.

Where is your source from? As of now I feel there is no need to panic. I think virus pandemics won't extend when the weather becomes warm or so I believe.
