So my B&G macaw (9 months) was originally on Psittacus Pellets but doesn't seem to enjoy them much... He'll eat them, but not as often as he preferably should! I'm trying a new brand which he seems to take a liking to so far, but once I took a peek at the ingredients, I'd definitely like some more insight. For one, I know sunflower seeds are an immediate no-no since they're high in fats. What do you guys think, should I keep feeding him these? I've attached imgs of the ingredients below.

I feed Harrison's Lifetime pellets, they also contain sunflower seeds in their ingredients, but when formulated into pellets most of the fat content is removed. Most manufacturers will also add vitamin supplements to compensate for what captive birds miss from the diet they would eat in the wild, as it would appear Psitaccus does and Harrison's do too. I also feed TOPS along with Harrison's in about a 50/50 ratio, just to give more variety in the total ingredient deck, although it would seem they prefer the Harrison's and eat them first. Perhaps you could give either one or both of those brands a try? I got onto Harrison's via another member here, they've been a real hit with my guys!

I use Harrison High Potency Coarse. My CAG is active and I have trouble keeping her weight up. I feed Harrison pepper blend about 3-1. This is kept available 24-7. Pecans, almonds and similar are monitored and rationed treats. Mornings are veggie chop mixture. There are pros and cons of pellets. You want quality no matter the brand. You say your bird isn't interested. He that true or is he an all day nibbler? My CAG eats a bit. Ignores, returns. Her heavy feedings are when the sun comes up. She wants her chop. Then just before lights out. Weighing your bird daily first thing in morning after poo is recommended. That's about the best way to aid in determining health.
