Teflon chemical free airfryers and cookware (PFTE/PFOA free)

I know this applies to all parrots- and birds in general, but I decided to ask here because I own tiels.

I have searched online, and if I scroll on Reddit everyone keeps going in different directions when having this kind of discussion. Like one will say the Ninja air fryer is perfect to have around birds because they have called customer support and they’ve done their research, but then another user would reply with “oh it’s nonstick. all of their stuff has teflon and pfoa chemicals”. I really want an airfryer, but if I can’t have one to keep my birds safe, then I guess I’ll stick with that.

I also would like to know about some PFTE/PFOA free cookware, I don’t know if the ones we have are free of those (they’re technically not ours, borrowed), and hopefully there are some cheap options for that lol

I have not personally found a safe air fryer on the market but there may be others on here who can point you in the right direction! As far as pots, pans, skillets, and baking sheets go, unfortunately if they are any kind of non-stick they are likely not safe. The good news is, me and my family frequently find bird-safe options second hand at thrift stores, garage sales, and rummage sales! Look for stainless steel, glass, aluminum, cast iron, or stoneware. All of these should be bird- safe and while they can be expensive new, they are usually quite reasonable if you get them second hand.

It comes with a nonstick pan that is supposed to be ceramic coated and a deeper pan you can special order that I think does have teflon. Everything else is stainless steel. I have been using it for more than a year without problems.

I ran it outside at max temp for 15 minutes just to be sure.

As for cookware there are several good brands that are ceramic coated. One is called Green(something).
But…… ceramic coated cookware doesn’t last as long as the old teflon did, it looses its nonstick properties sooner rather than later.

No, not teflon or the other alphabet teflon like products.

Everything is ceramic coated.

Back in the 80’s when I first started keeping parrots we did use teflon. We didn’t know better back then. We were very lucky.

I did a lot of research on cookware because I needed to get a whole new set after a move. We ended up going with Our Place cookware. I love them, and they are free from PFTE/PFOA. I saw they have a new line of small appliances, but I haven't had a chance to look into them yet.

Sadly your site can be reached- you said to change it to stainless steel or ceramic for the air fryer then? That way it doesnt have the nonstick fhats laced with the chemicals

I did a lot of research on cookware because I needed to get a whole new set after a move. We ended up going with Our Place cookware. I love them, and they are free from PFTE/PFOA. I saw they have a new line of small appliances, but I haven't had a chance to look into them yet.

I use cast iron but the Boss won't. For pots we use stainless, skillets are Green Pan for the Boss

If a product was made in CHina and it has a heating element in it, I will NOT trust it. Aside from the very lax regulations in China on making almost anything, the Chinese are bloody geniuses when it comes to chemistry and altering a compound to avoid any legal issues. Change 1, just 1 molecule of Teflon and now its not "Teflon" or a PFOA, PFAS or what have you.
