Which food brand?

I’ve got two Jenday conures and I’m trying to switch to pellets. But trying to find the best ones are hard. So far , my options are Tops , roudybrush and more. Can someone let me know which one would be better based on brand? Please let me know!!

Thanks! Quick question, would the crumble or mini option for roudybrush be good for conures? They’re really picky and it’s expensive so I don’t wanna get the wrong one

Either would work well, I get my cockatiels the smallest size so it’s not hard for them to bite, so whichever you think your birds have a higher chance of eating!

Birds tend to prefer smaller sizes, but both the mini and crumble are fine for conures 🙂

I supplement it with fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff, like fruits and vegetables! My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day. I also like Harrison's via mail because I never have to worry about out-of-date products.

Either would work well, I get my cockatiels the smallest size so it’s not hard for them to bite, so whichever you think your birds have a higher chance of eating!

Mine are very picky so I’m never sure but I chose the minis based on ingredients

On their site it recommended to start with the course crumble, but it is much larger pieces than I anticipated. It says crumble, so you think its going to be ‘crumbles. Right? Nope. The coarse is actually square pellets. She will chew on them ok, but seems to like them better when i break them up a bit.

Yes- they are expensive. I have a few pounds of each that are completely shunned- as in, “You call this food?!?!?!”
But the Harrisons has been week received. It is so bird dependent tho- what one hates, another will love. Thank goodness for choices!

If there is a parrot store near you (or if your vet carries pellets), they may be able to offer you sample-size portions to see which your bird seems most interested in. I have had more success feeding Harrison’s than TOPS, but offer both. I believe Harrison’s is an enriched pellet and TOPS is not, but I could be wrong.

I personally have tasted each pellet brand myself, and I can’t understand why my birds didn’t like TOPS. I spent a lot of money buying that stuff…and had to give it away on freecycle.

Zupreem actually tastes fishy. My Quaker will only eat the high potency not the lifetime pellets. They say that’s ok, so I just ordered more.

I tried roudybush multiple times, it tatses.. interesting. Kinda like dirt/flour with a bit of salt.
Nature's nest(SA pellet brand) tastes SUPER bland, I hate it. I will not feed it to them again.

Tops is pretty good…i couldn’t think why they wouldn’t eat it, except maybe the texture was so different (gritty or grainy and hard). Zupreem fruit is not very fruity (compared with fruity pebbles cereal) and all zupreem tastes fishy. Harrison’s…? I will have to taste test the two (high maintenance and lifetime) and maybe I can tell why Willow likes one and not the other!

Luckily Jasper will eat Willow’s rejected pellet types and thinks the fruit zupreem are REALLY special.

The Rickeybird has eaten Harrison's all his life. Our avian vets over the years always approved. Mail order is good to ensure freshness.
